New to this. -any advice/help would be appreciated
Hi guys, I'm really not sure what the real reason is behind my acne. I have it really bad on my cheeks and my chin and a little on my forehead. I have tried everything and it has only gotten worse. I back tracked and came to conclusion it might of been from my make up products and introducing new face washes, lotions, masks and natural methods for over a year. I feel like I have been covering up my face with make up for so long that It didn't even appear to me how much my skin has changed. I used to have perfect, clear skin. I used to wear drug store make up and sometimes didn't even remember to take it fully off and STILL had perfect skin. I started introducing face washes to my skin once I noticed a little bit of acne. Now, my face is completely covered. :( I recently started this no face cleansing regimen and I think I'm in the "getting worse stage" before it gets better. It really takes a toll on you. I sometimes get extremely depressed and will sit on the internet for hours researching on what I can possibly do or what I am doing wrong. At this point, I'm desperate. I'm going to continue to use only water to wash my face for now. However, holidays are coming up and I would like to use a light foundation to cover up any existing acne. Does anyone know a very natural way I can take off my make up that won't make my skin any worse than it is? I have extremely sensitive skin and I just want to find what works for my skin so I can stick to it. I'm trying to go without make up and although it has lowered my self esteem, I am not going to give up. I cannot wait for the day I wake up acne-free and feel beautiful without any make up. Any advice/help on a very natural non irritating make up remover would be very much appreciated. I will update with pictures of before and after if this regimen seems to work for me. Thanks :) -Ashley D.

Hey! Please update as often as you can. I just read all your logs. I gave up my skincare routine in late December 2015 (stopped using Retin-A, topical antibiotics). By Jan 2015 I used only water and sometimes spayed my face with the AO Biome Motherdirt Bacteria Water. Then by March 2015 I stopped all products and stopped washing my face with water. Since then, I have had massive oil/filament buildup and dead skin. I think that's the worst part. I have never scrubbed it off with water because that would be breaking my no water rule, but I have picked off some of the worst parts with a dry fingernail. I have also been trying the No Poo method on my hair at the same time. My acne has slowed but I still have some. My nose still gets oily and there are blackheads. I am going to keep on doing this exactly this way until Jan 2016. I have been eating a vegan diet since October 2015. This "experiment" has definitely taken a toll on my self-esteem and social life. However, the routine has helped me not care as much about my appearance and has been mentally cleansing. I love not spending so much time in front of the mirror. I try not to look at myself too much and just relax and not care about every little thing. So ya...the dead skin is a motherf**ker but I'm continuing to chug on. I have hope that my skin just needs a year to regain strength. I'm proud of myself for lasting this long without any mess ups or breakdowns where I desperately scrub my face or start using products again. I think every person that tries this is very strong-willed. Overall, my skin is a lot less oily and I spend less on products. I'm going to continue and see if more improvement happens!

Depends
For me, Acne is a heritable trait. I have tried weaning myself off products, and it works for a short period . However, my skin quickly reverts back to "normal" a.k.a. combination and pimples, and I have to "purge" it again. However, for those who want to try the washing or water only method, take these factors in consideration before you use try: Is the product you are using irritating your skin? What kind of schedule/diet do you have? Products that dry out your skin actually cause you skin to produce more oil to compensate for the loss. Diary, for the people inquiring about dietary matters, have been known to break your skin out. The product that you're using may also may not be suitable for your type of skin. It would be beneficiary to look in the ingredients in the products.

Get better after 1 week
i was tired with my oily skin, black head and white head acnes. I has tried many cosmetic but its getting worse. 4 months before, I quit coffee after a stroke ( Im Vietnamese so I drink super strong coffee, the original liquid extract from dried coffee bean without sugar, not the one with cream and milk you guys always have). 2months before I start taking Omega 3 and Vitamin E, and 1l of Non GMO soymilk daily. My skin got better, but still oily. Then last week I heard about no-wash method, it reminds me of the time my son was born, i didnt wash my face for a year because I was damn busy with him and i didnt have time for myself. And that time my face was super super beautiful that everybody keep asking me for tips. So I started this method last week. Im still using spf50 sunscreen 2 times/day, I splash water on my face several times a day, pat my face with fingers to dry it. Use face cream at night. Clean my makeup with olive oil and clean olive oil with cotton pad, then splash water until I dont feel any oil on face. After a week, my husband confirm that my skin look better, and a friend ask me how my skin glow and smooth like that ... my acnes still here, but because my skin less oily so they wont show up like before.

Got worse after a month
I had previously been using benzoyl peroxide at night and a face wash twice a day, then I left my skin alone for a month, occasionally washing with water in the shower, and my skin got quite a bit worse. This may have been due to my worse diet, but I'm not sure.

seems great
but hard to control bacteria then. it does help the skin relax and take a break from all chemicals usually used. but bacteria seems to develop faster in that uncontrolled environment. might be good for a couple of days.

Didn't work...
I have been dealing with my mild acne for months now and thought I would give this a go since it was so simple.. After using so many harsh chemicals on my face for so long I feel like doing nothing but splashing water on my face calmed down my big pimples slighting. But that's all I can really say. I have combination skin and my t zone was oiler than ever and after a few days I noticed a few new pimples forming. So no I would not recommend doing this, acne is all about trial and error. You just need to find what's right for you.

Don't try this if you are having closed comedones!
This will work fo people who are suffering from acne that's caused by irritation or who are using products that are not suitable for them especially people with rosacea acne and sensitive skin type.. sooo plez plez for anyone with congested skin ( having closed comedones, those tiny bumps under the skin) don't try this method as it will make your case even worse.. our acne type needs exfolation in regular basis.. I'm using retin a now for the CCs and it's doing a great job, alhamdullah..

I'm gonna give it a try.
After seeing many 5 star reviews here, I'm gonna give it a try. My pimples on my cheek is starting to increase, I am 16 years old. But suddenly, I breakout a lot, like every week. January 2016, I don't have any acne, not a single pimple, but since one appeared...I picked it, and that makes it the way it is now. I've been using face wash, and it doesn't get rid of it, instead....it's worse and worst everyday until now. I'm a picker and I'm trying my best not to pick on my pimples. It's like a village of inflamed acne here on my cheek, I don't have any acne on my forehead, and my chin. So, I will give it a try and not to wash my face with any products but just water, I'll post an update soon in a week, or month. Second update: I can't keep my hands off my face, it was going great until.....ah, I keep touching my face and here we go, an inflamed ones. Couple of bumps on my face, annoying. I'll try my best not to disturb them and update more anytime soon.

It's been over a week. My skin looks much healthier, and I didn't get breakouts anymore. Dead skin cells all over my face and today at the morning, I tried cleaning all my dead skin with apple cider by wiping them off, now I look like I have inflamed pimples, it seems like it is already healing now. My acne is looking much better. I will be going to update more in a week.

Advice?
I haven't been washing my face, chest or back with soap or cleanser for a little more than two weeks now. I only use baking soda every few days to exfoliate. My skin was substantially less oily right away, which really got my hopes up. The first few days I also noticed what other people said about pimples that surface quickly, and that are easy to deal with. After the first few days though, my skin started erupting again. I have been at constant war with it for the past weeks now, but I want to believe I'm doing something wrong. I thought that since my skin has been less oily, I'd see improvement. What can I do differently? The past few days I put some BP cream to treat the areas that were completely broken out, because I couldn't take it anymore. Any advice? Thank you!

you're doing fine. it will take a lot of time for your skin to go back to normal. and stop using baking soda on your face. use mixture of honey and sugar as exfoliant. and splash some warm water every other day. give it at least a month. acne will definately get worse but eventually with time it will get better.

Don't use baking soda it has a alkaline pH wich is the opposite of the skins natural slightly acidic pH of 4.5-6.2

Uh...no.
Did this. HATED it and I don't have acne. I merely have congested skin...or HAD I should say. Soap was invented hundreds of thousands of years ago. I personally need something to break the surface tension so that the oil built up in my pores can be released. You only need to wash your face 2x a day. Forget the treatments and toners & stuff. I think SA and BP are the reason so many of you are still struggling. Get a bar of soap, and a washcloth. Use that and a gel like aloevera or nicinamide gel (I can have 5% niacinamide compounded at a pharmacy or you can buy a gel called Metazine 5%) and scrub with brown sugar a few times a week. (NOT BROWN SUGAR & LEMON JUICE UNLESS YOU WANT CYSTIC ACNE) Long to short: YOU'RE TRYING TOO HARD, BUT DON'T STOP CLEANING YOUR FREAKIN SKIN.

Everyone skin is different you are well uninformed of that, most people are on here doing this regime because before we only used water in our youth years coming up. but get a small blemish and want to try to correct it using soap or other, natural, none natural treatments, destroying our skin in the process. This why most people here in america have this problem, because we are told to use soap and etc which we really don't need but like i said everyone is different what might work for you might not work for someone else. but good luck and good morning
