Good for a little bit..
I've been on Dan's regimen for awhile now. I have hormonal breakouts once a month, or more if I've strayed from the regimen. I liked the moisturizer from the regimen, despite complaints I see others have. It's light, makes my skin feel soft, and of course, no breakouts. But after 7+ months of following the regimen, I was still peeling like crazy, even after I used less BP. I switched to the CeraVe lotion in hope that it'd help, which it totally did. The dryness and flaking stopped immediately. But yes, there was a catch. After 2-3 weeks of use I broke out horribly. And I did notice a waxy layer on my skin that caused some irritation. I would gently scrape the side of my cheek, and this weird waxy substance appeared under my fingernail. I understand this probably helps with hydration, but it suffocates my skin. I'm sure this lotion works well for others, but not for my sensitive, acne-prone skin. I reordered Dan's lotion which I'll use during the daytime, then probably switch to a Cetaphil lotion for night.

And as a side note, Dan reviewed this lotion and mentioned that some ingredients in the CeraVe lotion can clog pores, if that helps your decision!

Break out
It hydrates very well and reduced redness. But it clogged my pores, like I applied this in the morning, and before going to bed my skin was still hydrated. it reduced redness, with white heads...

Burned my skin to oblivion

Pros:

Very moisturizing, keeps flakes to a minimum
Not too greasy
Bottle is big enough to last a while

Cons:

BURNS!

Unfortunately this just did NOT work for me. Keep in mind that everyone's skin is different, and oftentimes the only way to know if a skincare is right for you or not is to try it. I was hoping this would be the answer to my dry skin / flaking problem (I had recently started the Regimen and my Neutrogena Oil-Free Combo just wasn't cutting it). Long story short, this DID moisturize my skin tremendously, and it left me with only a couple flakes around my mouth, instead of flake city. And this was only after one day of use. However, I had to stop using it almost immediately as it just burned my skin beyond anything I'd felt before (except maybe with Cetaphil). Prior to this product, my face wasn't really all that red or irritated, despite 2 pumps BP night / day for a week. Enter CeraVe. As soon as I put it on, it felt like acid melting my face off. My temples and cheekbones suffered the most. It wasn't the mild burn that a lot of people experience when applying moisturizer post-BP... it was the kind of burn that keeps you awake all night. Needless to say I was very disappointed, as this would have been a miracle product if my skin hadn't reacted so negatively. For many people it seems to work fine: I was just one of the unlucky minority.

Pros:

- Moisturising
- Doesn't Burn
-Cheap
-12oz
-Pump
-Thin application

Cons:

-Breaks me out
-Greasy/Shiny
-Slightly darkens skin tone
-Doesn't absorb well enough

For some people it doesn't seem to cause any breakouts or very little irritation problems. I think the combination of Cetearyl Alcohol & Ceteareth 20, which has been noted to cause breakouts when used together (not always by looking at these reviews), has caused me smaller breakouts around the chin, forehead and cheek area. What I would do is test it first to see what happens. It might work well for you. Avoid if also prone to cosmetic acne. source: [link removed]

Pros:

Moisturizers well
Got rid of flakes FAST

Cons:

Burned my skin when used with BP
No SPF

I really wanted to like this, but I simply could not get it to work for my skin when using the BP from Dan's Regimen. I got a horrible burning rash, but only when I used it with the BP. I stopped using the BP for one day to see if that was what was causing the problem. Sure enough, it was. I recalled Dan saying that glycerin could cause a burning problem for some (which CeraVe has), the reason that his original moisturizer is no longer being offered. So it works if you don't have acne, pretty much. If you have to use BP, look elsewhere. I've started to use DML with SPF 25 during the daytime and broke down and bought more of Dan's moisturizer for nighttime. So far, I've had pretty good results, but I am still trying to heal my skin from getting burnt with the CeraVe. Time will tell.

Pros:

Moisturized pretty well
lightweight and doesnt clump up over BP

Cons:

Made my face SO red and felt like it was burning

I must be allergic to something in this, or the combonation of this moisturizer with dan's BP does not work for me. My face was red, hot, and swollen the entire time I used this moisturizer and I was SO embarrassed to go out of my house.

Pros:

Made my skin less prone to flaking
Skin felt good - not dry or oily
Great pre-makeup layer

Cons:

Made my breakouts worse!

I had been using Dan's Regimen and all of the acne.org products, and I have to say that they have really made my acne much better. However, the flaking had never really stopped, and I tried all of the suggestions I could find on the forum here. So my mom had Cerave lotion at her house and on a whim I tried it. Oh, wow! Velvety is the most appropriate word you can use after you apply this stuff. Not greasy at all. It was like baby bottom skin on my face. That's nice, when you're almost 30. :) I went home and bought some and noticed within a few days that my chin started breaking out in those big, ouchy, under the skin zits. I thought, "Oh, my skin needs time to adjust," and so kept using it. It didn't stop. And then I started getting these weird zits along my jaw line and neck, which I had NEVER had before. I gave it months to make sure that if they were kinks, they could be worked out, but after this last round of jawline zits, I said enough. I ordered Dan's latest moisturizer to see if it was improved. Time shall tell. I am very sad Cerave didn't work for me. If I don't like Dan's lotion, I may try the Cerave cream in hopes that it won't do what the lotion did.

Pros:

I like the pump
Definitely has made my face less dry

Cons:

My skin is very irritated through out the day.
I have bumps in areas that weren't there before I started using this product and my general acne is more inflamed.

I have been struggling with acne for over a year now, it seemed to get bad once I hit 20. I finally just stopped washing my face, moisturizing, using acne ointments, etc., because it seemed all the products were just making my skin worse and not helping at all. Miraculously my face cleared up, it hadn't looked that good in a long time! BUT it got very dry so with lots of research, I bought the foaming cleanser and moisturizing lotion. Today is my third day so I want to give it a fair try and wait it out for another few days or so, but it seems to just have made my skin worse. However, it has moisturized my skin, and it's not as dry and flaky, I also put it on my shoulders and the next day I had 1 zit that formed and i'm not thinking it was "coincidental", so i'm really starting to doubt this product, for my skin at least. :( I was very hopeful, and will update if anything changes in the next few days. Bottom line, next product I try will be oil free!

Pros:

It kinda felt nice on my skin, and it wasn't a "thick" type cream.

Cons:

Made me break out terribly within 48 hours.

Only used this for a couple of days on the suggestion of my boyfriend. I think it's great that it's worked so well for some, but for me, it was a nightmare experience. Similar to what some others have said, within a very short amount of time (in my case 48 hours), I broke out with little tiny white heads all over the place, and a combination of eczema and acne in other spots. I am never using this product again. However, I understand different products work differently, depending on the individual and their skin type, so all the more powe to those who used it and it worked well for them. For me...not touching it again. (note: I did give this two stars 'cause despite the terrible breakup, it did feel nice on my skin---I didn't experience the "burn" some others noted, it felt tingly in a good way)
