Microdermabrasion review

Pros:

gets rid of red marks
brightens complexion

Cons:

pricey

I had microdermabrasion done a few years ago to help smooth out the area where my scars had healed (thanks to the dermaroller). It was really bumpy because of the new skin. I got it done every 2 weeks for about 3 months and then monthly for a few months. My complexion was bright and smooth. After the 3rd treatment, my red spots disappeared. My skin was smooth and the scars I had were less visible. I loved it. It will NOT get rid of indented scars. Had to stop getting treatments because my dermatologist moved to the other side of town (30min. drive) and I can not find any good estheticians on this side of town.

Pros:

-Quick, Simple
-Reduces minor scarring and spots

Cons:

-Slight flakiness and sensitivity to light for a few days after
-Not real cheap

So far I have only had one treatment, but I will definitely be continuing with microdermabrasion from now on! The treatment was simple; a little rough feeling, but nothing bad. Initially I noticed my skin was smooth and clean. The next day I definitely saw a reduction of the redness and size of my scarring. This is continuing to improve with each day. My only recommendations with Micro are to stay out of the sun for extended periods, and try to avoid skin makeups. Makeup tends to accentuate the flakiness...not attractive :P

Pros:

Smooth skin, evens out a little, doesn't hurt

Cons:

Didn't work for me, expensive as hell...

No improvement AT ALL for me. I paied 1600 usd for 6 months of traitement and honestly I don't see any improvement, not even on my existing acne and blackheads (which they said they could help drasticly...) I do not recommend!!

Pros:

softer
cleaner, no fuzzy whiteheads
smoother
absorbs moisturizer better

Cons:

expensive, not sure one receives that much bang for the buck since must have 5-10 to see results. first treatment most dramatic, I have had 4.

I will have 6 treatments.... the sixth is free, would I do again? , maybe.

Pros:

skin feels baby smooth after microdermabrasion, and my skin looks more healthy and glows a lot more

Cons:

crystals sometimes get in the mouth

i would recommend this once your acne is under control. if you perform this while you have active acne, it would possibly worsen it. however, i've seen results... even a 1% difference can be seen, and with continuous use, all those 1% difference adds up!!! i use at home microdermabrasion kit

Pros:

microderm left my skin feeling smooth all over. it softens the look of my acne scaring and helped with dark spots left from blemishes.

Cons:

face was red for the 1st day after treatment. there is no pain involved though, just make sure to moisturize

i have scarring after years of suffering with acne. microderm does nothing for deep scars, but does wonders for my less severe scarring. my family says they saw results after my 1st and only treatment. i can't wait for my second treatment.

Pros:

This product is great it helped get rid of scars and clean out the pores. My skin was super soft afterwards.

Cons:

If your insurance doesn't cover it it is very expensive. leaves your skin red afterwards(only for about 2 hours). You have to take between 6-18 sesions depending on your skin condition.

I would definately recomend this because it helps your skin ALOT! My insurance covers the cost so it is very cheap for me. Due to my skin condition i only need to take 8 sessions to get the desired out come.

Pros:

It removes dead, flaking skin.. temporarily gives smooth even look for special occasions.

Cons:

Does not give you permanent results, and veryvery expensive! What a racket it is!

I really think the dermabrasion machines are a scam, the results are not permanent, the price is outrageous... of course I did treatments when it first became popular and realized belatedly I was simply paying the cost of their equipment. Basically I think besides exfoliating your skin, the machine simply causes your skin to swell and have a temporary filling out of scars and smooth appearance--IT DOES NOT LAST!!! A rip off and a farce. Now I can use store products that pretty much give me the same results--including a dermabrasion cloth that works as well as an office visit.I would never pay 50.00 to 100.00 plus for a dermabrasion ever again. I wasted a couple of thousand dollars on the machines and I regret it.

Everyone was impressed after just ONE microdermabrasion session.
My skin condition pre-microdermabrasion: Oily skin, clogged pores, occasional breakouts, post acne marks/scars, fair skin tone I got a free microdermabrasion session from a lucky draw, I didn't know what is it about so I googled it. Since it's free, why not give it a try. Result: So right after the treatment, my face became slightly red/pinkish (similar to facial extractions), and the doctor applied sunscreen on my face. A few days later my skin has improved dramatically, the redness on my nose has reduced, the mild acne marks/scars on my cheek has reduced to ALMOST non-existent. But after looking at the reviews, one thing I can notice is that microdermabrasion will result in 3 different groups. 1) Instant improvement after one session [ME] ; or 2) Improvement after multiple sessions i.e. 7-12 sessions; or 3) became worse. ***In short, it really depends on how your skin reacts to it. If you already tried many others methods like me, why not give it a try. If you already have a good skin condition, better not, as you might make it worse/aggravate. Key takeaway: 1. After doing it, minimise sun exposure (wear sunscreen, hats) 2. Don't use makeup, let your skin heal/recover from it. 3. Not every clinic/ dermatologist are the same. (Really depends on how your well your doctor does it for you) 4. Of course, home microdermabrasion will not yield as good result as going to a doctor who has the expertise in this field. 5. Microdermabrasion is considered non-invasive. You can actually search up on youtube to see what's microdermabrasion. 6. Some people might say they've done 5 treatments in 2 years. Based on doctors' recommendation, you should do every 2-5 weeks to see effective results, not 5 treatments in 2 years.

Pros:

Treatment itself feels great! Face feels smooth and polished and very clean. Evened out my blotchy skin color. Fine lines are reduced.

Cons:

Slight reddening of the skin afterwards. Not sure if this is a con or not. Some people might think you look "glowing". Like everyone says though, it's expensive. I think it's worth it if you're in your late 30s like I am.

The actual treatment, to me, feels great! It's like getting a great back scratching but on your face. Living in New York City leaves me feeling like I'm walking around with a layer of dirt and filth on my skin. This feels like it's getting off all the grime and grit. I hear that more than one treatment is needed to see the full results but I feel that it's already done something. It takes time for the new skin cells to reach the top surface and begin healing and making any noticeable difference. So I'm not sure what some people are complaining about when they say it's not working after only having gone once. There's some slight reddening but I assume that will fade with time.
