Pros:

Non-irritating, little to no fragrance, cheap and effective.

Cons:

Not for those with dry skin.

After a rather disastrous stint with some of the liquid Cetaphil cleansers that are raved about by Paula Begoun my skin has finally started to return to normal after using Purpose. The Cetaphil for normal to oily has a fragrance in it that was giving me low-grade Rosacea, constant redness, little watery pustules, etc. The regular Cetaphil is so emollient that it is virtuallly worthless for those of us with oily skin. This product IS a little drying so unless you are younger with super oily skin you can probably get by with using it once a day and water the other times. Also, only leave it on your face briefly and rinse off with cool water. The only other products that compare arer Cetaphil Bar Cleanser (for those with drier skin) or Aveenobar Cleanser.

Pros:

Affordable, works great, does not smell like alot of cleansing bars, doesnt leave a film on my face and my face actually feels clean and doesnt feel oily 5 minutes after I wash, the bar is huge and it's affordable (BONUS)

Cons:

none I have seen so far

The funny thing is that a friend of mine gave me a trial size bar of this soap months ago and I threw it in a drawer and forgot about it. I had been using the Proactive cleanser which by the way is a waste of money. It works great for a minute but then its like my acne became immune to it and it wasnt long before I felt like I was throwing money(lots of it) out the window. Anyways after reading the reviews on Purpose bar soap, I dug it out of the drawer and started using it. It's been a week now. I really like it but I have extremely oily skin. I went and bought the huge bar and was amazed at how inexpensive it was. I highly recommend it to anyone with oily skin. By the way, I threw the Proactive away with the exception of the BP lotion. When thats gone, I will buy something at the drug store.

Pros:

thoroughly gets rid of oil

Cons:

EXTREMELY DRYING

i really liked this product for about 2 weeks, using a glycerin based cleanser really helps acne, but i soon found that this cleanser became extremely drying and iritating, skin felt dull, removed too much oil i now just keep this in my shower and use it if my skin is extra oily, i recommend using Cetaphil instead, not as drying and the liquid is gentler on skin

Pros:

Works.

Cons:

I wish it was cheaper

This has been my facial soap of choice for the past 4 years after learning about it here. I'm a little lazy and I'm rough on my skin when doing the reg, but I'm still clear overall. This soap rocks!

Pros:

*It's yellow

Cons:

* Couldn't buy it in the UK so had to pay a fair bit of dosh for it to be shipped over here from the states.
* Brought my face up in redness and little spots
* Hard to maintain, have to buy a plastic soap carrier

I think I must have really sensitive skin, I'm not one that normally uses treatment.. I just wash my face with a bit of water under the shower normally. But my spots were getting bad, and I was getting all these little crispy bits of dead skin around my nose and cheeks. So I tried this little bar out, but after the first use, I don't think I'll use it again. I only lathered it a little bit before putting a bit around my nose area. It was on for about 10 seconds before I rinsed with cool shower water. When I got out the shower, my face was covered in residue, which took me ages to rinse off over the sink. After about 10 minutes, my face had more spots than I had before. My cheeks, nose and mouth area were most affected with unwanted redness. It might work for you, but I didn't enjoy my experience. This could be because I have naturally dry skin though, odd for a 17 year old white guy but hey. Might work for oily/combo skin?

Pros:

Got rid of acne.

Cons:

Makes my acne reder when washed in a sink.

I dont know if that is a coicidence or not, but whenever I wash my face in the sink with it, my acne looks reder for about 30 minutes after washing, but when I wash in a shower it looks fine. But other than that, its GREAT, I would definitly encourage buying a BP spot treatment to go with it cause this brings out all your acne, so be patient because its worth it. Also, it dosent dry out your skin if you dont later too much. It made my skin dry the first few days, but then my skin adapted.

Pros:

Price
Works very well

Cons:

A little drying

I ended up buying this at target after reading all the reviews. I bought this, a soap travel case, and a tube of BP from neutrogena. This face wash works very well. It does strip your skin of any excess oil, and does dry out your skin, but its not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. My skin type is NOT oily either. I would say I have pretty normal skin. After washing, it leaves your face feeling very clean, no residue. Works very well for the price. After using this product I do not think I will go back to any other cleanser thats not a bar. I ended up taking the advice of one of the other reviewers here. The bar was too big for my travel soap box, but I cut the bar in half, and put half in a zip lock bag to save for later.

Pros:

Cheap

Cons:

It works so well the first few times I used it. My face felt extremely clean. Until maybe the 3rd day when it began to feel "squeakly" clean. That's when it started to get bad. My face went extremely dry, and even after moisturizer, it itched.

I wanted to try a "bar" product because I thought it'd be different. But I'm not too sure now. I gave this product more than a week, but it's obviously not working for me, since my face is too dry, itchy, and breaking out pretty bad. If this works for you, great. The only sure thing I think I can say is that when your face feels "squeakly" clean, that's actually NOT good. It's a sign that the bar is overdrying your face.
