This is the one thing that has resulted in a significant and sustained improvement in my skin. I'm a male in my late 20's and have tried loads of different products and diets. My acne had gotten to a point where it was mild, however still noticeable and still really damaging to my confidence.
Before trying this I thought I was doing everything right. Clean diet, no processed foods or sugar, drinking tons of water and green tea, exercising, sleeping enough, zinc supplements etc etc. Yet my skin was still very oily and prone to breakouts and blackheads.
Since I started to take cod liver oil several months ago, my skin has gradually gotten to a point where I don't have to worry about new pimples when I wake up everyday and don't have to worry about topical treatments. My skin is naturally way less oily. It did take a while to see a difference (probably while my levels of vit A and D gradually increased) and I did have a few breakouts along the way, but my advice would be to keep at it. For something that is going to "cure" your acne, and not just treat the symptoms, this is the kind of timeframe you need to be thinking in.
I would also recommend taking the liquid form, rather than the capsules. Do your research and buy a good quality brand. The one I use is called garden of life Icelandic cod liver oil. From my research, I would also recommend cod liver oil rather than fish oil or fermented cod liver oil.
In terms of dosage, I did not take a "megadose" but did take double the recommended daily intake (which was approx 200% of your daily vit A and 100% of D).
In conclusion, - try it! Vitamin A and D are both incredibly important for your skin and if you think it is possible that you aren't getting enough of these in your diet, then definitely try supplementing with cod liver oil. It could be the thing that clears up your skin for good.
Cons:
Even though it is double strength you still have to take 6-10 capsules a day to get the high dose of vitamin A and D that is neccessary for acne healing. Also, some studies say vitamin D only works to cure 1/3 people of their acne. But it is so cheap, and it is worth the $8.00 investment to see if its the cure youve been looking for!
Pros:
I am a holistic nutritionist who has struggled with acne for 5 years and Ive tried every supplement and topical remedy there is to no avail. I just started this 4 days ago and it is the miralce Ive been looking for, my acne started to dry up the very fist day I took it! I actually left the house today without make-up. Most omega 3 and fish oil supplements cause me to break out but this doesnt, and it contains double the vitamin A and vitamitn D -two very powerful acne fighting vitamins.
