Pros:

clears redness, pimples, and keeps skin smooth and doesn't dry out skin

Cons:

NONE unless you don't like the smell of coconut. But who cares if it works.

IMPORTANT! THe coconut oil has to be extra virgin, unrefined, & organic for it to work. It should have a strong coconut smell too. Regular coconut oil will clog pores! Look up the EVU kind and it won't. I love it bc I was trying different oils like avocado, primrose, and jojoba oil and none helped really. My skin was very red compared to my neck and was on a acne free diet that wasn't working for a month! I used the coconut oil and in an hour the redness was gone and my skin look 10 times better:) So I ate whatever I wanted over a weekend mainly bc I was sick and didn't care lol and used the coconut oil and guess what? My skin still stayed balanced. Try the coconut oil if nothing else has worked trust me.

Pros:

Seems to disinfect blemishes and take away imflammation

Cons:

A few occasional tiny whiteheads if I leave my face sopping with oil before bed

Has not affected my face negatively like I feared. Instead, I have seen a decrease in blemishes. Not immediately extraordinary, but I'd favor consistency any day. I think coconut oil provides a good balance between acne-fighting and moisturizing, as it doesn't dry my entire face but there is some minor flaking around problem areas (not a con for me). Since I've been using this I've had no abnormally large, cyst-like erruptions but I've had a few whiteheads. However, the oil calms the whiteheads so I'm cool with it. I don't even use the expensive brand! What I have is a cheap version from an ethnic market that doesn't even smell like coconut. After washing my face at night I'll apply some, wait a while, and rinse off the excess. I even use this in addition to Noxema (that oily "crap" everyone complains about if you don't already know) and the two oily products don't interact negatively. I would recommend this. If you don't like it, throw it away. Or give it to a friend with acne, better yet.

Pros:

Soften skin
Give a glow
Reduces redness
Helps pimples heal faster
Prevents wrinkles

Cons:

Could cause breakouts for some
Greasy

I've been using coconut oil for a few months now. I apply it at night after washing my face and misting it with Avene thermal water. I apply only a small amount. Let it soak in and then apply Benzoyl Peroxide on top. Perhaps it's because I use it with Benzoyl it hasn't caused me to break out. My skin is pretty much clear since using it, a white head here or there but nothing that stresses me out and they go away so much faster. It's so much better than using products with chemicals that are bad for your body and lots cheaper. Make sure it's the virgin kind. I also use it on my whole body now and then and have used it to clear a yeast infection.

Pros:

It made my skin softer and healthier. Brings deep acne to a head.

Cons:

It made me breakout in whiteheads that got worse and more numerous as I continued to use coconut oil.

I used this oil for about three months. At first, it seemed to help. However, after about a month I started getting breakouts - more than I had been experiencing with my adult hormonal acne. I thought this might be purging, so optimistically kept applying coconut oil to my face every night after a steamy shower. Unfortunately, my acne got worse. In addition to the usual breakouts associated with my menstruation cycle, I got whiteheads all month long. So, was the oil expelling existing impurities, a process that would eventually clear all acne? Or was it blocking my pores and causing pimples that never would have been had the oil not been applied? After a faithful three-month trial, my vote is for the latter. This oil is not good for my skin, but I believe it is a very healthy oil and will use what I have leftover in my cooking.

Pros:

85% of my body was once covered with eczema. Coconut oil cured it COMPLETELY within 3 months.

Eliminates whiteheads (I never had a problem with blackheads but I assume it will have similar effects).

Fabulous tanning oil.

Cons:

Do not use heavily on your face - it may cause a breakout. A little goes a long way.

It is antibacterial, antifungal, and filled with lauric acid. I swear by this oil because it healed me completely from scarring!!!

Cons:

- worst break out of my entire life

Your skin will either love coconut oil, or it will hate it. My skin hated it, and it was hell. Here's the story: I had originally bought the "Vitamin E" product from my local Trader Joe's for healing hyperpigmentation. I did NOT know that 'coconut oil' was listed as an ingredient. Coconut oil is HIGHLY comedogenic. While it may work for some, it can be absolutely detrimental to others, myself included. My skin had its spotty days, but was never severe. I was actually sailing into a nice clear streak and had become interested in keeping myself clear and healing my hyperpigmentation. I was (unknowingly) using coconut oil for a couple weeks. The break out was immediate. It was a spread of cysts all over my cheeks, chin, and forehead. The cysts were so bad and so painful I could not sleep on either side of my face. They became so pressured and so engorged (and interconnected, I might add) that they began to purge themselves on their own. It was a nightmare that lasted for almost 6 months and I am still dealing with the repercussions now after 9 months. I could not possibly begin to express the amount of regret and the amount of suffering I've endured for such a careless mistake. Bottom line: if you are particularly acne-prone or do not know how your skin will react, PLEASE do not make the mistake I did, and PLEASE be careful as to what you put on your face. If you're looking for a good moisturizing oil that is non-comedogenic, I suggest jojoba as an alternative. It helped me through my nightmare break-out. I know this was a scary review, but if I can save someone from what I had to go through, it's worth it.

Pros:

Clears up skin
Makes skin soft
Smells good
All natural
Can be used as a moisturizer
Edible
Multiple uses: internal supplement, facial & body moisturizer, great shaving cream, for cooking and smoothies, hair oil

Cons:

Can make you feel greasy if you put just a bit too much on
Can be hard to swallow the minimum dose on its own (you should put it in a smoothie)
Could make you break out more

I had strangely dry & irritated skin around my chin a couple of years ago so I used coconut oil. It made me break out even worse so I stopped putting it on my face. I still used it as a shaving cream and nothing leaves my legs so smooth. Then I read it was good for thyroid health and I began having three tablespoons everyday in my smoothies/nut milks and sometimes using it for cooking. My acne started to clear up and my skin felt smoother. It's only been short of a month but this is the first month I didn't get horrible premenstrual break outs! So I started to put it on my face, just a very little bit every morning. It's only been a week but so far, my skin is staying clear and smooth. And as a last note, you must be very consistent when using it as an internal supplement. I used it inconsistently in the past and never got results like this until I had 3-4 tablespoons every morning. You may want to buy in bulk because you're going to go through a jar fast.

Pros:

Eliminates acne in it's tracks. Especially the cystic acne.

Cons:

None

I started using extra virgin cold pressed coconut oil the last few months and it brings all of your acne to a whitehead which is better than nothing. After a few days, the whitehead is gone and the pimple is dried up. It also helps to moisturize your face and help fade marks. I use it when I come home from work and right before bed and leave it on all night.

Pros:

softer skin, reduced red marks, demolished acne, skin looked a lot evener, clears up new acne spots really fast, & fights off breakouts when I ate junk food.

Cons:

feels kind of gross when you put it on, & is solid at room temperature.

this definitely improved my skin so much! I have almost eliminated my acne with coconut oil. if you plan on trying it makes sure to buy unrefined extra virgin coconut oil though. it's definitely worth a shot though!

Pros:

None

Cons:

It broke me out.

Expensive

I read all they hype about this oil and so I bought the best one -- organic, etc. etc. Epic fail. It made my skin worse. Recently I looked on zero zits list of comedogenic ratings and this got a higher rating. Wish I'd known that before I tried it. I would NEVER do this again. There are better oils for your face, like sunflower oil.
