Pros:

Clear gel and dries quickly

Cons:

Dry/flaky skin

My acne was bad and got progressively worse after I started this medication. I have HUGE bumps on my cheeks and jawline that make up draws more attention to. It's only been a few weeks but I don't see any improvements. My doctor said the cocktail I'm on (Doxycycline, Clenia and Ziana) will get worse because its "flushing the impurities to the surface". This is my 3rd time on this medication, all my doctors insist on giving it to me, after I've said time and time again that it didn't work.

Pros:

The best topical treatment (in combination with other prescripts) I've used yet. During the purging cycle, the antibiotic keeps my painful cystic acne from becoming the full blown nightmare that other tretinoins have produced. Has smoothed some older scarring.

Cons:

Purging does occur. Face is always reddish now. Skin can get flaky, and is much rougher. Some old scars seem to have gone white & really are very noticable against the overall ruddy color I now have.

Also, without insurance, the price is insanely high in my area.

I have suffered with large, deep acne cysts for many, many years. The last tretinoin I was prescribed left horrible bulging cysts the size of a quarter and terrible scars. Some surgical removal was required. When my dermi prescribed this, I thought I was in for more of the same. Instead, the cysting stayed minimal and my face has really cleared up overall. I still get large deep cysts from time to time, but this is really the first topical that has kept things from really spinning out of control. My biggest problem is the price. My insurance won't cover it because I'm over 35, and that's just wrong. After all these years of suffering I've finally found something that helps and they won't cover it. It costs $410 a tube here. My dermi is giving me samples, which I greatly appreciate, but I still have to buy a tube every so often.

Pros:

Prevents teh acne and sort of brings up the pore to the surface.
Spreads very easily on the skin.
lightens scars
fades winkles

Cons:

Takes a long time for your scars to fade.
leaves skin dry

I have very oily skin and my dermatologist gave me free samples of this to test out LOL. Personally I like this product because it brings all of my pores up to the surface and I can easily scrub them away with teh clarisonic. However it does leave the skin dry and this prouct should be used at night only because it contains an antibiotic (which destorys or inhibits bacteria multiplication) and retinol (which is a form of vitamin A). As mentioned before retinol makes our skin highly sensitive to light because it encourgaes teh growth of new skin cells and therefore should only be woren at night. If applied in teh mornign please remember to apply sunscreen as your face. I like this product alot because it prevents acne and it also brings up the pore to the surface PLUS I GOT IT FOR FREE!

Pros:

Helped redness
Didn't dry
Calmed acne a little
Worked ok on back acne

Cons:

Didn't clear pimples
Messy
Caused some breakouts

I used this product for a few months each night, and I didn't see any progress as far as clear skin. Maybe it was just my skin type, I'm a bit surprised, since my dermatologist prescribed it to me.

Pros:

Reasonable price with insurance and discount card
One tube lasts for a VERY long time
No fragrance
Not extremely drying with the right moisturizer

Cons:

Purging
Makes skin oily
Does not clear acne

I was prescribed Ziana gel after going in to a dermatologist last June. I have used the Ziana gel every single night since then, and will be going in to a new dermatologist next month for a different product. The Ziana gel has simply NOT WORKED AT ALL. I had a lot of initial purging, found my very oily skin seemed oilyer, and worst of all, I consistently broke out. This past week I've had a very bad cystic outbreak, so I have finally given up on this gel. What I found interesting is that ever since going on the Ziana, my acne seems to linger even longer - I thought the Ziana would not only help prevent acne, but also would clear up acne faster, but that wasn't the case for me. It takes ages for certain pimples to go away even when using the Ziana, and the pimples certainly aren't being prevented. I'm extremely disappointed in this product. I had hoped very much that by this time, I would have clear skin. Instead I've got large, painful acne and a TON of hyperpigmentation marks. I hate looking at my face in the mirror. I feel like a freak. So it's goodbye Ziana.

Pros:

( I also started Ortho Tri-Cycline birth control 2 weeks ago)
-Diminishing blackheads
-Quickly shrinking my inflamed lesions
-no new acne to speak of
-much less inflamation and MUCH smaller pores.

Cons:

-some flaking of skin
-smells like the agar plates in my microbiology class?
-can be super pricey (this is where the last point was lost) but I had a free trial coupon

I am on a great combination of stuff. I am taking ortho tri-cyclin ( which treats hormonal acne problems), Aczone in the AM, and Ziana in the evenings. I feel like the Ziana is having the greatest affect because there is visible difference in my acne from the time I go to sleep at night to when I wake up for work in the morning. My doc would also like me to take Solodyn, but I had an issue getting the prescription..they want to charge $400. My one problem is with the company Medicis in itself. They give out this three month discount card, which makes both prescriptions a combined $30 a month but once that runs out, these two drugs (Ziana and Solodyn) retail for about $500 each per month and my blue cross isn't wanting to accept it. Basically, if you can get the medications inexpensively, DO IT. Good stuff. I am seeing results after a week, even though in their trials there was only a 21% success rate (meaning 21% of the patients were TOTALLY cleared). I guess I would go into that group.

Pros:

It was a free sample.

Cons:

Made my light acne worse.
Have pink under the skin bumps all over jawline now
I have MORE acne.

I've only been using for week, but my derm never warned me that it would make my light acne moderate/severe. I know I should be patient, but its heartbreaking to watch your self esteem fly out the window in a matter of days. Also leaves a pink/brown mark on old spots. Will probably fade, but I'm more concerned about the new bumps!!! The "it gets worse before it gets better" is not comforting at all.

Pros:

No irritation, No dry skin

Cons:

super expensive....must ask doc for discount card to get it for $25
Takes awhile to see results...took me a month before I noticed a difference.

FINALLY!! After more than 10 years and thousands of dollars spent on medication (over the counter and prescription) I found the answer to my prayers. Just in time for my engagement pictures...Thanks Ziana!
