Pros:

good for people with mild to moderately severe acne, helps control oily skin, doesn't dry you out

Cons:

moderately expensive, the toner runs out really fast, the refining mask isn't the 'magic' everyone makes it out to be, does not help very much with cystic acne

i never have had very bad skin, just the odd zit here and there, but because i'm very pale, the scars were SUPER visible, so i don't want ANY zits ever! in high school i started getting a few zits on my forehead consistently because i have bangs and store brands wouldn't work. a combination of hormonal birth control and proactiv has made my skin FLAWLESS. i went off the HBC about three months ago and i was scared that i would get acne again. my skin has been a bit more oily, but i haven't seen any zits for about two years now. i would recommend it to people whose acne isn't especially severe because those cases should be left to a dermatologist, but if your acne isn't terrible and you're willing to pay for it and keep up your routine and be really vigilant, it will be a lifesaver.

Pros:

-Cleared up my acne within three weeks of use
-Pleasant scent
-Fast shipping
-Customer service was helpful
-Lasts for a while (you don't need to use too much of it at all, just a dime size)

Cons:

-Pricy, AT FIRST! But thanks to customer service, I learned how to manage my shipment to the point where i basically a little more than $10 a month for it, which i will explain later.
-Dried out my face to the point that my skin produced even more oil to compensate

I love Proactiv. I've been using it for 6 years and I love it. Without it, I wouldn't be the confident, happy person that I am today. I had really bad acne in high school ranging from postules to l nodules and it was really hard when most of your friends had either normal to perfect skin and you're without (I would laugh whenever they freaked out about one zit when I had many lol). My mom kept suggesting Proactiv but I thought it was way too expensive. However, after seeing my sister who basically has perfect skin and my friends who only worried about ONE pimple, I finally caved in and got on the phone. I noticed an improvement within 3 weeks. By then, everything was gone. 4 years of acne gone by 3 weeks, I just couldn't believe it but it happened! My skin was (and still is) so smooth and soft! The thing about proactiv is that yes, it is a bit expensive. I pay about $45 EVERY FOUR MONTHS. In other words, they ship and bill me $45 every 4 months so I really spend a little more than $10 every month, which is still expensive, however for something this good it was worth it. The thing that bothered me was that in terms of oil control, my skin wasn't that oily prior to using it. If i remember correctly, I probably had dry skin. After Proactiv, my skin got super oily. It's still oily but that's easily manageable with some blotting sheets. But my acne is gone. I still get a minor break out every once in a while, especially in the Summer or when I'm really stressed out but it disappears quickly. I also noticed that it helped heal my scars. I have skin that bruises and scars easily so I was really impressed that my acne scars faded to the point where you would think I never had acne. The last thing I want to mention is that different people have different skin. So it would make sense that it would work for some and not for others. But it's worth giving a try. I put "moderately severe" because that's how my acne was BEFORE pr

Pros:

Clears up your skin! smells good, and leaves your skin soft.

Cons:

None

I went to dermatologist religiously for 15 months for facial acne, and spent $2000 on treatments and doctor visits. I used all the products the doctor recommended. I was using prescription creams and taking 200mg of Doxycyclin (antibiotic) per day, and saw no results. Being very hesitant to try Proactiv, thinking if medication isn't helping, how could an over the counter product help me?! I used it for two weeks and it was a miracle worker, I can't remember the last time I had clear skin like this. The first week I used it, my acne became a little bit worst then before, and the second week it cleared up. I stopped going to the dermatologist and now using Proactiv twice a day. I love this stuff! My only regret is that I didn't use it sooner.

Pros:

Feels great
actually works!!

Cons:

Expensive
Time consuming

My skin has NEVER BEEN BETTER. I had the absolute worst acne ever. I was worse than people on the infomercials. I tried tons and tons and tons of things. Proactive finally worked and people are literally shocked when they hear I used to have acne. I had it from 11 or 12 until I was about 19. I wouldn't use it if you only have a small problem... but this worked GREAT for me. Please, give it time!!!

Pros:

Completely cleared my skin, best acne treatment I have ever used.

Cons:

Bleaches towels but you are warned about this in advance and advised to use white towels

I have chronic moderate to severe hormonal adult acne. On the oral contraceptive pill I found I had completely clear skin but I wanted to come off the pill after 10 years of using it (I'm 36yrs). A couple of months after I stoped the pill my acne was back with a vengance. I've been using 50mg of Spiro daily and that has helped somewhat. I started using ProActiv two weeks ago an dhave had NO NEW BREAKOUTS SINCE. I am amazed how effective it has been, it is the best acne product I have ever used, my skin has never looked better. There was initial irritation/flaking/peeling but stick with it, the skin that is revealed after peeling is dewy and glowing and I feel that I look about 10 yrs younger.

Pros:

Quick
Easy to use
Virtually invisible
If the 2 .5 % original set or products doesn't work amazing for you, there's a gentle kit with the primary ingredients being 2% salicylic acid and an extra strength version with the primary ingredient being 7% Benzoyl peroxide. Options, people, options.

Cons:

Slightly drying even for the oiliest of skin
Time consuming
Automatic billing sucks

I've tried everything over the counter. Everything you could possibly buy at your local acne aisle at you local store hasn't really been as good. So before my junior year, I bought the special 1 month kit for about $35. It worked, but I applied a lot of the lotion. I stopped using it because I quickly cancelled, before my first automatic shipment, but I loved the product. Now before my senior year, I bought it on ebay and it is super cheap. A 60 day set is around $30-40 dollars if you buy it with the toner. The toner really didn't do anything amazing but it helps somewhat. I've started using proactiv again, for about three days now. and I'm only using the cleanser and the lotion. My skin is so unrecognizable. My acne is like 70-80% gone. Here's what I do: Pat water on your face. Apply a dime sized amount of the cleanser. Rub it in for about 2 minutes, but don't add anymore water. You really want the scrubby particles to really slough off the dirt. When you're done, rinse the cleanser off. Moving on, you use the toner (if you want to). Then, after that apply a quarter (not dime) of the repairing treatment in either the original 2.5% BP or the 7% BP extra strength formula on problem AREAS not spots (depends on what you buy, I tried the 2.5 my first time, now I use the 7%; Dan says it really doesn't matter), After the treatment dries you can add any light moisturizer with spf. At night I like to do the same, but I personally skip the moisturizer because I have oily skin. Again, this isn't a miracle cure, but it's pretty close to it. If this doesn't make an improvement on your skin, pretty much there's no hope for you with over the counter stuff. Sorry:( also, this isn't a permanent cure, you have to use it everyday. Let's put it this way, I'll stop using this whenever I outgrow acne. *TIP If you want to get a super deal on this, place your max. bid on ebay at the last 10 to 6 seconds of an auction not hours before. Your max. bid

Pros:

Clears acne a lot
Cleanses face
Reduces acne scars
Does NOT overdry or irritate skin

Cons:

Doesn't clear acne completely
Expensive

ProActiv works the best out of everything that I've tried. It reduces my acne by about 60%. And it leaves my skin soft and fresh, not dry and red. It also makes my skin look smoother, and my acne scars to fade. It doesn't clear everything, but it clears more than anything else I've tried. Only possible bad thing is the price, $50 for the whole set. But if you want to save money, just buy the cleanser, which is the first step in the 3-step thing. It's all that you really need. The other stuff helps, but it's not really necessary for that much money.

Pros:

It works for me (that is the biggest pro). I only need small amounts of solution each wash. The mask is great on whiteheads over night. It helped reduce the size and time it took for them to clear away.
I purchased the 3 step system for 110 AUD and recieved 2 bottles of facial mask, moisturising sun cream (which doesn't make my skin oily), a pair of sun glasses and a funky towel for free.
I dont get white heads anymore and I rarely get acne these days.

Cons:

It did take a few more weeks than I'd wanted. But I guess I was being impatient.
110 Australian dollars is a little expencive for me, but in the end I really want to get rid of my acne so I am prepared to pay a little extra for something I know works for me.
I cant use it on my neck or else i develope eczema
I get 1 pimple every now and again, but thats self inflicted because I dont stick to the routine as religiously as i should and i know i dont have a perfect diet.

The bottom line is that everyone has different skin. I say give it a go. I've been looking for a good routine for a long time now and am lucky to have finally settled for one. If it doesn't work or your finding its way too irritating for your skin, then it just isn't compatable with the product. And if your not willing to pay a little extra for the product then keep searching for one that is more affordable and works for you.
