Worked initially but then really didn't.
I started getting acne at about 21 in the form of non-inflammatory pimples on my chin and forehead. I'm now 25 and have blocked pores mostly all over my face, cystic outbreaks on my chin (hormonal) and forehead and painful hard spots along my jawline. I have mostly oily skin but these days I really have no idea what it's doing. I tried the core system from proactive about a eighteen months ago and used it for three months. It seemed to really clear my acne however towards the end of the three months I felt that whilst my skin was mostly clear, it looked quite dehydrated. That's when I stopped using it. I revisited it two months ago when my acne got really, really bad as I knew it had worked for me previously. This was a huge mistake. The first week saw some of the smaller pimples dry up and disappear but then in the fourth and fifth weeks it seemed like the proactive was irritating my skin and causing it to break out further. It seemed that the toner was burning and tingling my skin the most so I avoided this part of the system and the problems see sped to clear slightly but then they just got worse again. I had a failed stint with retin a about eight months ago and since then my skin has been much more sensitive to everything so it's possible that this is why the proactiv has not worked for me this time round. The first time round it definitely reduced my breakouts. I stopped using it because it made my skin a but dry and I felt it was starting to look a bit lacklustre.

I hAte proactive
This stuff called proactive is not a good product especially for the skin, it is too harsh for the skin. I used proactive and It had me regret it my whole life, not only I wasted my money, but my skin totally dried out, darkened, and burnt. Now I'm totally dissatisfied and angry at myself for trying out something on my skin that later on would have me feeling down and shameful about myself. I do not recommand this stuff proactive to nobody else.

Eh
I had some mild skin congestion going on on my forehead in sixth grade. I used this for three months and I was cleared up. It left my with some pretty bad discoloration though, probably cause I never moisturized (no one told me this stuff lol) I thought I would just stop using it since I was clear, but I broke out worse than before. I tried using it again, but it didn't work. Skin = immune to it.

Cons:

Dries skin
Irritates
Horrid customer service
Almost impossible to cancel subscription

Do not under any circumstances buy this crap!! This is a complete scam by proactive and they should be ashamed! Their garbage doesn't work and when you try to cancel they put you on hold, tell you that it's cancelled and in 3 weeks send you another package while charging you. They're a mess stay far far away from these excuses of human beings that created this ponzy scheme while ripping people off!

Pros:

none

Cons:

After using for 5 months i saw barley any acne going away. then i put on Proactiv one day and it comletely turned my face burgundy and burnt it. the doctor said it was a chemical bun and i t would take a while to go away. after two weeks it is now gone but still hurts the same. it peeled severly and i new have huge splotches of pale while skin on my face now that the peeling is done.

I will never use agian. Acne Free -severe- is a 10 times better product and cheaper

Pros:

Removes a minuscule amount of acne

Cons:

Causes extreme dryness and stiffness of the face even with the use of moisturizer

Burns for a while

Smells awful

Multiple steps make it very tedious

This product was horrid. After the first couple of days it started clearing out a little bit of acne. Then it got progressively worse. I started breaking out more and my face was extremely dry and stiff. It was to the point where it felt like I injected it with botox. If you pair the product with the facial mask, it smells like rotten eggs. Actually, that's offensive to rotten eggs. It smells like garbage wrapped in garlic that was thrown into a den of skunks.

Pros:

When used properly, keeps skin clear!

Cons:

- 4 steps
- Need to use the product exactly as directed.
- Parabens
- costly

A lot of the reviews I've read here look like the result of using the product wrong. When you follow the directions it's great! Summary: step 1. clean your face with the cleanser (you don't have to buy the harsh one with the exfoliant that comes in the promoted "package", they have a gentle one too). I actually stopped buying the cleanser and use Spectro Jell because it's cheaper. step 2. USE THE TONER! this is really important. It prepares your face for the for the benzoyl peroxide "lotion". If you skip this step, the product doesn't work as well. I've tried cheaping out and using other toners, but this is really the best one. I'll fork over the cash to have clear skin. step 3. let your face dry completely from the toner before applying the benzoyl peroxide "repairing lotion". Use what you need - a little goes a long way. Let this dry, and wash your hands. It's peroxide- of course it bleaches things! step 4. after it's dry (and it shouldn't take too long - you don't need to use a lot!) apply MOISTURIZER. Use your own favourite brand. I use Aveeno. If you don't use a moisterizer, you're skin will be dry and flakey (because you're covering in benzoyl peroxide. duh) Make sure to use sunscreen if you use the benzoyl peroxide. But you should use sunscreen daily anyway. So, there a lot of steps, but I've tried a lot of products and combinations of products and this is the best, hands down. But do it right, or don't bother spending the money. I buy the products seperatley in Canada, so the cost is a bit higher than the package.

Pros:

-Leaves skin felling soft and clean
-Clears pipmples

Cons:

-Can dry and irritate skin
-Can cause more breakoutss
-Bleaches towels

At first, Proactiv really worked for me. Within three days, I saw an improvement. But after about two months, my skin was immune to the system. Then, I alternated the Proactiv cleanser at night and a Neutrogena cleanser in the morning. Plus, I do not use the third step (it really dries my skin) or the toner (it is useless). Instead, I used two prescription creams to zap zits. Bottom line, Proactiv works if you balance it with other products.
