Can someone tell me about purging and if they've really gone thru it with the acne.org regimen...

i read a lot of reviews about purging and not giving up... but I want to talk to someone first hand. Been on the regimen for 8 weeks and my skin is worst than it's ever been.

Picture below was taken november 8 when I felt like I had mild acne.. and  this is how my skin is now... pretty much wanna give up. Some reviews say this is normal... idk how. This has just gotten ridiculous...

Purging is very normal and most people experience at least some purging during the early weeks and months. Just try and ride it out the best you can and know that it is part of the process, always keeping your eye on the prize which is clear skin! :)

Hang in there!! Purging is a common reason for giving up...most don't realize it's actually the light at the end of the tunnel!!! |::Siava:

I have been a regimen user for about 6.5 years now, and have gone off of the regimen twice for 4 months at a time to test if I have grown out of acne. Unfortunately, I am back on the regimen for the 3rd time now (quit the regimen in august, acne came back slowly), and every time for the first 4-12 weeks, I have purged. I have read that BP does not cause purging, but it certainly does dry out and irritate your skin at the onset of the regimen, which can't be good for the skin holistically, but it is a short-term price you pay to get used to the BP.

I can definitely relate to the frustration, the doubt in the regimen, and any negative self-talk that might be going on in your head. I encourage you to stick with it! I hope my 2 successful runs that completely cleared my skinboth which included purginggives you encouragement to continue.

as a side note: I have moderate acne and some cystic acne without the regimen, a bit more intense than the pictures you posted.

Thank you so much. I spend hours tryng to read reviews but I wanted someone to personally tell me they've been thru it. How long have you been on the regimen and when did your purging stop?

Thank you for replying. I'm super sad about it, only because I didn't feel my acne was bad to begin with and now I feel like it's at it's worst. Definitely taking a huge toll on me and my boyfriend thinks I should stop the regimen because he's so shocked at what's happening... how long until your purging stopped? I'm on my 8th week right now and my scars and acne is just crazy. Do you have any photos that you don't mind sharing?

What I have learned over starting the regimen a few times is that acne seems to purge slowly where it initially intensifies when starting BP, and subsides frustratingly slowly. For me, it takes about 8 full weeks for new acne formation to stop, and another 3-4 months for redness and pigmentation to subside. (about 6 months for redness to completely go away.)

I am currently on week 6, and the formation of new acne is noticeably better, but the scars & pigmentation is a result of my peak acne formation, making it seem like I have bad acne. I would advise judging your progress by the formation of new acne to see whether you are still purging, or are recovering from the purge :)

Are you on week 8 with the full amount of BP?

I don't have any pictures of my progress this time, but I dug up some old photos
(most of the picture links don't work, but some of them are attached to the posts)
My First Regimen Log

I attached one of me after 4 full years of the regimen (with a lot less BP than what dan suggests)
pic1.jpg
I also attached one of me after 6 months (24 weeks) of the regimen so you can see how long it takes for my acne and scars to subside.

I hope that helps!

Are you using the moisturizer from the site ? I use my hg Olay complete moisturizer for sensitive skin. I tried dan's moisturizer and hated it. Its greasy and irritate my skin. Not to mention it makes me look yellow. The treatment is perfect. Tweak the dosage if it's too drying and use a moisturizer your skin likes. I didn't have purging issue and my skin cleared up in 2 weeks. I have moderate acne problem. My pores get clogged easily so moisturizer is important for me. I never use anything else besides Olay complete.

I can totally relate....from everything I read, this is completely normal and you just have to get through it, before it gets better. Not very helpful to see acne get worse, but it does sound normal from what I know. I'm on week 5 and my skin is SLOWLY clearing up but I do get new, sore pimples every couple days that take about a week to clear. Fingers crossed that with time, this will stop...

Have you taken antibiotics ? Oral antibiotics cause fungal outbreaks on skin, which look like acne, but need antifungal cream to control

My son started regimen apr 18. By sept 18 he was clear ( for the most part) he still had scars but active acne was gone. He stayed clear through March/apr 19. He got lazy and thought he didnt need to follow the regimen. Then summer came and trips to the lake / too much sun and he started to break out again. Right now we are working on the regimen to get back on track. We see some purging (he never went completely off )but would slack on the bp because he thought it made his face red. The regimen works! I have pics to prove it! Please just stick with it. I plead with him to stick with it- but he is 17 and frankly....doesnt like to listen to Mom. Dan- if you read these- please know how thankful I / we are that we found you!
