Hi Guys, I've had acne from when I was 11 year olds and it just keeps getting worse.

My skin care routing --- Wash with Dove soap, apply witch hazel, apply skin repairing oil, add benzoyl peroxide

I do this every night and day

My skin is so red though and cysts beneath have formed I have no acne on my cheeks, just my forehead and the sides of my chin Its making me unhappy and self conscious, I find it hard to look people in the eye and I'm finding job interviews hard

I think you are using too much. Apart from the benzoyl peroxide, I would take everything there out, especially the soap. Soaps are more alkaline than our skin, and therefore dries and irritates the face. Terrible in the long run.

If you are focused on battling acne, just stick with benzoyl peroxide. Use a gentle non-medicated cleanser and apply as little pressure on your face as possible, so that the inflammation (redness) doesn't get worse.

You also didn't mention using a moisturiser. Moisturiser is CRUCIAL. Benzoyl Peroxide kills acne bacteria but also dries the skin out, so it is the preparatory step. Moisturiser rehydrates the skin, and is what kickstarts the skin's repairing process. Without moisturiser, the skin remains dry, so your body pumps out more oil to compensate, resulting in more clogging.

Remember that your own body is the best at repairing itself. Don't rely on skin repairing oils or lotions, most of them are gimmicky. Future acne will destroy the building blocks of your skin, so use Benzoyl Peroxide to prevent them. And keep moisturised and hydrated.

Hi Liamm,

I think the advice above is excellent.

I would also suggest looking at other ways to try and combat acne. Do you drink water daily? Do you eat fruit and veg? Do you exercise?

These things are often overlooked in the battle against acne, but I believe them to be very important.

I hope this helps.

I agree with the above... both gave you excellent advice. Look for a liquid cleanser, such as Purpose, and ditch the soap. Also, try to use a 2.5% BP because anything stronger just irritates the skin. And a light moisturizer would help; if you prefer oils, check out grapeseed oil as its very gentle and non comedogenic. And definitely make sure your diet is good.... plenty of water and few high carb processed foods, more whole foods. Dairy can also be problematic for some. Good luck.

Thanks for the tips! So starting tonight I'll just wash my face with a gentle cleanser and the bp on and then moisturise! :) Yes, water and green tea are all I drink, I go for a run everyday and try to eat as healthy as possible!

If someone could add me and give me some more tips that'd be great!

If you've had acne since you were 11, it could be something in your diet. Try not eating dairy or gluten for 1-3 months and see if you have improvement. Acne is usually internal

Stop washing with anything but water (and even go easy with that) for 2 weeks. I promise you will see significant improvement. What do you have to lose?
