Retinoids: Good At Preventing Cysts/nodules?

Has anyone found that a retinoid both helps to prevent cysts/nodules and helps quickly heal those that still "break through" to the surface of your skin?

At 37, a retinoid could help both my nodular cystic acne and fine lines--which seems like a win-win. But I also am considering stopping the Pill--for health reasons--and am terrified of what my skin will do and wonder if a retinoid would be enough to help with even more hormonally-driven acne.

Thank you,

PI

for me, nothing worked like diet (and yes that includes my failed accutane trial)- and my acne is cystic, the big underground cysts that don't come to a head

no gluten and no dairy mostly eliminated the cysts, and I use tazorac which helps with fine lines (I don't look my age), and I'm also a big mandelic acid fan, I may actually ditch the taz since I think the mandelic acid is really helping a great deal

so it's hard, but I would recommend experimenting with some diet changes
