What Works Best For Accutane Lips?

My son just finished day 12 on Accutane. He's been using Aquaphor, but his lips are severely & painfully chapped, & the Aquaphor is making it WORSE.

I'm looking into different solutions. What seems to work best for the lips? He's miserable & can barely eat. Trying to drink lots of water too.

i use blistex, my lips seem to be pretty well. i also sometimes put vaseline total moisture for dry skin on there. its not a lip balm but it works.

I'm at about the same point in my Accutane course as your son, day 14 I think? My lips are getting bothersome too. My doctor recommended applying Bag Balm (which has lanolin, petrolatum and B-hydroxy quinoline sulfate) throughout the day. He also gave me a prescription for Locoid ointment, a hydocortisone ointment to help heal and hydrate the lips, to be applied once in the morning and once at night. Maybe your son's derm could give him a prescription for something similar? It sounds like he needs something powerful. Good luck!

My derm recommended Dr. Dan's Cortibalm, it's made especially for accutane patients!

Thank you everyone! I got him some Bag Balm. It is fantastic! I highly recommend it. It's very soothing, and works fast :) He's now able to eat and drink normally again!

I second Bag Balm. My son has tried everything. Nothing worked like Bag Balm. He puts some into a smaller container and carries it with him everyday.

He has tried Carmex as well, but it didn't work nearly as well as the Bag Balm! It's also been great to help my younger kids' scrapes heal faster :)
