My Acne Discourages Me At Times

I am 17 years old and I am finishing up my senior year in high school. I am using clindamyacin topically once in the morning, retin-a once every other night, dermalogica face wash twice a day, and am taking Doxycycline orally twice every day. In the past six months my acne has increased. At times, it itches. It is sensitive to touch at times, and I find it to be tough for me to shave when I have to. I don't have to often because- i'm only 17! Any sort of advice would help. I have used drugs in the past such as marijuana, ecstasy a few times, as well as coke. The two bad ones were three years ago which is very bad and I regret it but I just mention that since there may be a correlation between acne and the use. So, some of these pictures go back to about six months ago. I'm sure you can tell which ones, just because of the amount of acne. I have not yet washed my face tonight and the ones that seem to have the most acne, are very recent.

Are the pictures of (what seems) to be a clear before all of your acne started? Or is it just rare periods in your whole journey where it has gotten clear?

Looks like a possible allergy, honestly. What have you done in terms of diet?

I have a few questions for you:

1. Are you or have you been taking more antibiotics than the prescribed dosage?

2. Are you willing to go on Accutane, even if it's a low dosage?

3. Can you/are you willing to go on an adapalene/BP topical?

4. Are you wearing sunscreen with SPF 50+?

Side effects are manageable if your diet is right. There is a thread on it.

At most they can be mitigated, but some will always be noticeable. Furthermore the serious side effects( mania, suicidal thoughts, depression etc.) that may come with accutane cannot simply be flung out from diet changes. I am positive that a simple diet change would not have helped me in the slightest bit with the severe mental crippling that accutane gave me*

My suggestion is talk to a dermatologist and seek out the information first hand. He will (at least should) go through all the warnings, common side effects, and procedures for the drug. And as far as side effects go, it is generally thought that the less amount of Mg's per day that you start out with, the less frequent, and severe the side effects will be.

* I don't mean to scare or deter you. I was told by my derm that the effects I was experiencing were super rare and that my genetic makeup was the reason why Accutane just wasn't for me. As far as you go, I would expect you to experience the usual effects of, severe dryness, initial breakout, sunlight sensitivity. There are more, but these are the main main ones.
