Raised Bumps On Chin...hypertrophic Scar?

Hi i was wondering if anybody can help me identify what these raised bumps are and how to treat them. I've had these for over a year and my dermatologist told me they were clogged pores but i haven't seen any improvement. I've seen a couple threads related to this however nobody on the threads have longed on in years. So i was wondering if anyone else has had these or if they can give me their opinion as to what they are.

So i guess what i want to know is that can clogged pores raise the surface of the skin and give it this bumpy texture or are these scars?

Here's a pic i found online which is very similar

i had a few bumps like that and every derm and plastic surgeon i saw said they were scarring from past acne. they all say different things on how to get rid of them too. i had one derm say 3 deeper chemica peels should do it while others have said 1540 fractional laser, co2 ablative laser, core2 laser and dermabrasian. i havent done much but some lighter chemical peels and they do nothing so once my acne has been gone for a bit will probably go with the 1540 fractional laser.

Thank you so much for replying Tracy,

When i stretch the skin of my chin I can see a little bit of white stuff deep inside the skin/bumps were yours anything like this? I want to visit another dermatologist to get a second opinion but im not sure if i need to get another referral from my doctor.Did your Derm ever prescribe you any topicals for the bumps or were your only options the chemical peels and laser treatments? This may sound stupid but where do u go to get a chemical peel done because i've asked my dermatologist if he can just extract these or something but he said no. So im not sure if his office performs these or do i go to another specialist to get this done? Sorry for all the questions but these bumps/scars plus acne is getting me paranoid!

have you ever tried to squeeze the bumps to see if anything comes out? i have tried differin and tazorac for the bumps but it did nothing just made my chin really dry and red and peely. i had few of them removed with a lamprobe treatment done but i dont recommend it at all. i go to a medical spa to get my chemical peels done. some derms do them but most dont want to be bothered. when you go to a medical spa you can ask them to do extractions first to see if anything comes out of them. i would try getting extractions first then try retinoids and peels before checking into any type of laser. also plastic surgeons offices do peels as well it all depends on what depth you want. good luck!

A while back i did try to squeeze something out but i think it irritated the area and i ended up getting a cyst or an infected pimple right in the area making it look worse. Its pretty hard to squeeze anything out because it looks like its deep inside the skin but i appreciate your advice and ill try to make a trip to a spa to see if they can extract anything. I was prescribed Veltin (a clindamycin phosphate and tretinoin gel) and like you it really hasn't done anything. If you dont mind, can you tell me how long you were on the differin and tazorac? Do you have any experience with BHA's by any chance? Also what is the price range i would expect for an extraction or a chemical peel? Sorry for all the questions but im a 19 year old guy never been to a spa and never had plans on going to one but it came down to it lol.

hello again! hmm i was on differin for few months and then tazorac for a few months as well. i had to stop because i got contact dermatitis but it was doing nothing for my chin and the bumps but then again my derm said they were scars so if you think about no cream is really gonna get rid of a scar. i have used mandelic and salicylic acid on the bumps as well and it did nothing too. if you go and get a facial with extractions it will cost you between $50 and $100. i never paid more than $125 for a chemical peel. wherever you go make sure you do your research first and be sure the place is reputable.

you could also try what panos just said too but i doubt it will do much to be honest with you. it cant hurt though.

tracy i would like to not degrade methods that first you havent ever used and secondly they are proven to work both

in medical paper and in experience.

This is on of the reasons why efficient methods like the above have been dumped down in mainstream forums like acne.org

i am not degrading anything i am just going with what my derm and various plastic surgeons have told me about my scars and that topical products will not do anything for them. if the poster above doesnt have scarring then other things out there could definitely work for him for sure. i just hate to see people get their hopes up for something that might not work like i have so many times. i am just being realistic but i would agree that he should try what you posted and see how it goes. it definitely cant hurt.

That is actually my chin pictured in the grey shirt. I've had those raised bumps since my first round of accutane which was about 12-14 years ago. I've tried a chemical peel and I've also tried tretinoin gel, but neither made a noticeable difference. I had a consultation with dermatologist in the Houston area who treats acne scarring mid last year. Her name is Dr. Bogle and her practice is named Laser & Cosmetic Surgery Center of Houston.

She said that what was on my chin were raised scars. She said I would need intralesional steroid injections followed with Fraxel repair. The quote/estimate she provided me said it would be about $600 (per treatment) to treat my chin and also included some post treatment creams and stuff, which were around (400). I don't know how necessary the creams are, but I am worried about hyperpigmentation, so I will be sure to get them.

Unfortunately, I was still breaking out at the time of our consultation so she suggested I wait until my skin was clear before I had the treatments. My skin is better now, so I hope to be able to get them treated in the Fall. If I get a chance to I will post after pictures. Good luck to you!

keep me updated on your progress.i have bumps like that on my chin and everybody wants to do dermabrasian or co2 but i am going to see if my derm can inject them to see if it makes them go away but for now i am using keto scar gel and i feel like they are a little flatter. good luck to you. i hate these raised scars to me they are way worse than the acne. so what does the fraxel repair do? i am wondering once the scars are flat does the fraxel just re-texture the skin in some way?
