How to help old scars turn lighter?

I have old scars that are still pink in color after many years. Most people's scars supposedly turn almost white after a long period of time. Does anyone know what I can do? Are there any creams that can safely help an old scar turn lighter in color?

These are not scars .... This is called either PIE or wounding after acne or PIH or Hyperpigmentation. We made a FAQ, it's the top post of the hyperpigmentation forum with several treatments. Laser is often the most effective,... V-beam, IPL, Excel V, or 1064nm.
