Hi, for a while now I've had boxcar scars and icepick scars, but there's still a subtle discolouration and bumpiness that I can't identify and so can't treat. After looking around on the forums I think it might be hyperpigmentation, but I thought I'd present pictures to the acne.org pundits to be sure. Advice on how to treat it as well would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Im with you - Im also looking for (effective )ways to treat this type of scaring.

I have entire patches that are dark from acne occurring over and over again in the same place on my face. >.<

The only advice i have (and it's the most common) is exfoliate and sunscreen. Exfoliate chemically twice a week (ie papaya mask, AHA lotion, etc), and use 30spf pretty much every single day until you die. Not fun, but I watched a video with a makeup artist who basically said we're doomed to enhance our hyperpigmentation if we get any - ANY - sun. >.<

Some people say that chemical peels have helped. I have not tried this but have considered doing those extreme procedures that essentially burn off the top layer of skin. (yes, i hate it that much. )

My last tidbit would be to suggest some kind of Hydroquinone cream. You can get them at the derms , but places like Walmart also carry them. (if you're in the States). And you only use a q-tip to put it exactly on the dark marks. It helps to fade the skin color.

goodluck
