I brought tea tree essential oil from farmers market and tried it on my acne/ oilyface it was harsh on my skin, my eyes were watering for few minutes. some how managed to keep it on the results are miracle. It did work no more new pimples and zits and acne scars are fading bit fast compared to rest of the ointments on the drugstore. oil production is also reduced and have a matte finishing on skin. so far I am using only this blend at night - Tea tree, lavender, Rosemary and lemon. I am on my second day so far so good. will keep update on my regime. AND drinking LOADS LOADS LOADS of water for oily skin. Thanks

Really? How would you explain THAT?? Does your car get dirtier, the more you wash it? Does your house or apartment get dirtier, the more you wash it? I personally did an experiment with Sebutape Skin Indicators which I used as the way to measure sebum on my skin; as expected, I got the results that any reasonable person would expect: the more I washed my skin, the drier it got. I think you're just fooling yourself when you think that your skin supposedly got OILY when you washed it more often.
REALLY BRYAN? It seems as though your only intention on replying was to belittle. This in fact is true.
The more you wash your face in hopes of oil control your body will only produce more natural oil as your body feels the need to produce that oil if it is constantly being removed. Same as your natural oils in your hair etc. I'm just as bad if not worse when it comes to too much natural oils. ( it is a benefit in tanning though!) I haven't yet come accustomed to face primers because I can't stand the thought of lotion on my face but some makeup experts highly suggest applying this serum before your makeup application or just in general. At the cost of some of these products I would like to get a good one and try it out before recommending anything so thats the only thing I can think of as opposed to blotting or constant layers of compressed powder which yes I do and is horribly expensive on its own. However Bryan my face also gets extremely red n dry upon washing but that doesn't mean it's not extremely oily 10 minutes later. I don't think anyone just registers on this site to reply out of boredom. We find these questions because we search how to deal with our own issues.
There are only two proven options:
Low-dose accutane (5 -10mg/day)
Vitamin B5 (15 - 20GRAMS/day)
Everything else is trivial.
Emerging sebum inhibitors coming down the pipeline. Should see them by 2018. Both in phase 3 trials with the FDA.
Topical Sebum Inhibitors.Sebum production is a key driver of acne development. Newer acne drugs use sebum inhibition as a therapeutic target.DRM01is a topical drug that inhibits coenzyme-A carboxylase, a key enzyme involved in fatty acid synthesis. The drug has demonstrated dose-dependent inhibition of lipid synthesis in human sebocyte cultures and reduced the size of sebaceous glands in an animal model. In a first-in-human, Phase 2a study, its safety and efficacy were evaluated for the treatment of moderate-to-severe facial acne in 108 subjects. Twice daily application of DRM01 7.5% gel demonstrated statistical reductions in both inflammatory and comedonal lesions as early as week 4 (inflammatory, p = 0.0666; comedonal, p = 0.0328) and at the end of the study at week 12 (inflammatory, p = 0.0006; comedonal, p = 0.0025). In addition, at week 12, a greater proportion achieved a 2-grade improvement in IGA compared to vehicle (p=0.0070). The drug was well tolerated with minimal local cutaneous adverse events reported.5DRM01 is being developed by Dermira.
SB204.Nitric oxide (NO) is an endogenous, short-acting molecule with both anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory activity. NO has demonstrated activity againstP. acnes, is anti-inflammatory, and has been shown to inhibit lipogenesis. SB204 is a topical NO containing gel that has been evaluated in the treatment of acne. In a Phase 2a study, two concentrations of SB204 (1% and 4%) were compared to vehicle. Statistical decreases in the mean percent change in both inflammatory and comedonal lesions were observed in the 4% formulation compared to vehicle at week 12 (p0.05), with approximately a 55 percent and 25 percent reduction in inflammatory and comedonal lesions, respectively. Moreover, total sebum levels were found to be reduced at the end of the study along with a dose-dependent decrease in squalene and percent of free fatty acids in the sebum.6SB204 is being developed by Novan Therapeutics.

Getting enough sleep helps keep my oilies at bay as well. I especially need to sleep 8.5 to 9 hours a night or I would look like a greaseball in the morning.
The last and most important thing for me is excercise. It destressify your body and sweating can get rid of the toxins inside your skin.
Hope that helps! I wish you luck
You are absolutely right and it has been proven to be true. Don't worry about Bryan, he's dead wrong and just plain rude as well. Just like hair, the more you wash, the more grease it produces.

That doesnt make any sense. If its true, its just because of the fact that when you sleep more, more oil is being spread on your pillow from your face. I believe lack of sleep will affect the oiliness during the day that follows, due to tiredness.
