Hi everyone,

Has anyone ever tried gedarel for hormonal acne?

Ive been prescribed the 20/150 dose, but can't find anything about it being beneficial for skin online.

Ive been on dianette and Yasmin in the past which have cleared my skin brilliantly but I had a migraine a few years back so I can't be on those anymore.

Hence the doctor prescribing me this as it's low dose.

If anyone has had had any experience of this, please let me know.

Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi, I started on gedarel about two years ago after coming off yasmin due to mood swings.
Skin stayed relatively clear for the two years,  just the occasional few spots here and there. But then after about eighteen months I started to suffer from horrible migraines.
As a result I came off the pill completely in April and although the migraines have stopped, my skin has gone crazy - so yes in terms of acne gedarel worked for me! It's worth trying it!
My doctor has now suggested I try the patch, but like you I can't seem to find anything online about it helping with acne :(

Hi itsbeth,

thanks for your reply. Ahh im
sorry about your migraines, that's what I am worried about.

Was it gedarel that you were on or marvelon?

Hmm, im sure I've read a post on here from someone who said the patch cuted their acne. But I suppose it's one of those things that may help one person, but not another. It's a worry trying something new isn't it.

I've been considering n-lite laser too but it's expensive and I am worried it might not work.

Let me know how you get on.

I was on Marvelon initially, then they changed it to Gedarel after about 6 months - they told me it was the same thing just a different brand..

Been on the patch 10 days and so far so good! Acne is better than it was a fortnight ago..but that could also be down to the antibiotic i'm using, who knows!

Hope you get on well with Gedarel ;D

How did the Gaderal go? My daughter has just started taking it to help her hormonal acne. I'd love to hear how it was for you after a few months. Thanks.

Hi,

i didn't end up trying it in the end, I'm on roaccutane now instead. But good luck to your daughter, I've spoke to a few ppl who have tried it who said they had no negative effects from it.

Keep me posted, would love to know how she gets on ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you for replying and yes I'll let you know. We're trying Dalacin T lotion and the contraceptive pill route before the doxycycline prescription the dermatologist suggested. Don't want to try too much at once as we won't know what's working. Since joining this site today it seems acne is awfully difficult to manage and very individual as to what works. Hope you have some luck x

Very true, what works for some won't work for others, it's all trial and error isn't it.

I hope gedarel helps your daughter. Best of luck ๐Ÿ™‚

Im sorry to hear its made your daughters skin worse.

How did did she get on at the gp?

What topicals has she already tried? I like the carbon theory soap, its got tea tree and charcoal in it and has calmed down my redness. But many other topicals can aggravate irritated skin, it really is a case of trial and error.

I hope she finds the right combination for her.

Good luck ๐Ÿ™‚
