I have been on spiro (first at 50mg and now at 150mg) for 8 months. It hasn't been the miracle i had hoped but it has helped, at least for one week out of the month. The cycle is as follows.
a week before my period, i start to break out pretty badly. My period begins and the breakout continues. It worsens after my period ends and continues for a few days after. I begin to clear up for a few days and then i'm back to the beginning. Before i started taking spiro, there was no cycle so thats how i know spiro is doing something.
Any insights? I want to get off spiro as it's not doing anything above and beyond what it is doing. Any diet suggestions? supplements?
I'm at the end of my rope, i really am.

Hello, although I'm not taking spiro, I am on my fifth pack of birth control pills and I still get breakout regularly. My breakout cycle is kind of similar to yours since it is always the worst around the period and best in the middle between two periods. The pills aren't working as well as I hoped either. But recently I have been following a very clean eating diet (the Clear Skin Forever diet) which is pretty much paleo and I have noticed some improvement. I still have those cysts and comedones but the inflammation has gone down a bit.
Honestly I am at the end of my rope too. Nothing seems to be able to cure my hormonal acne. I tried taking Saw Palmetto, it cleared me up but gave me severe anxiety issues. Changing my diet completely may not be the cure, but I am willing to do anything that would help with the situation! Good luck to you girl!
Hi, I have a similar cycle. When I'm not on any birth control I breakout at ovulation and a little until period. Now I'm on Spiro (started at 25mg/day, on 50 mg/day for 2 months) and NuvaRing birth control. Seems to be helping, but breaking out at period. I can't figure out if it's due to the week without the ring or what. So far, Spiro is helping, but... not clear.
