Yes, I'm tired of this. At 38 I thought I might at least be on the other side of the battle. I have had acne of varying degrees since the age of 10. I have read all there is to read, I have gone to supposedly the best dermatologists, I do not wear makeup, I change my pillowcase everyday, I avoid dairy. I could go on and on about all the neurotic things I do to help my skin. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt, my issue is hormonal. Always has been. Today, I could really use some advice:
Here's my most recent regime:
12 months on orthocyclen. Prior to that one year on yasmin
6 months on 100mg/day of minocyclen. Stopped this 5 weeks ago.
10 months on epiduo and then switched to differin 0.3. Been on the differin 0.3 for 3 months
12 months duac
3 months on 50mg spironolactone then bumped to 75mg. been on 75mg for 2 months
The severity is better and now I am irritated with smaller pimples that seem to appear everyday. While they go away quickly, it seems I always have one or two new pimples per day. My face is so red and so dry and I'm tired of the texture of my skin.Because I believe my issue is most definitely hormonal (I still see more activity around my period), I'm wondering whether I should consider adding another 25mg of spironolactone. I believe the spiro has helped the most as the pimples I do get tend not to be the large inflamed type. Does anyone out there know if spiro will in fact help with the smaller pimples? I hate to add more medication if it's not going to help, but I'd rather add more spiro and be able to back off or stop the topicals. I'm also afraid to rock the boat by adding more spiro, though I never had a massive breakout when starting spiro.
I would be most appreciative of any advice.
Everyone is so different and I ahve not tried spiro myself but friends that are on it still get the occasional small pimple that resolves quickly
It seems spiro helps prevent large cysts or lingering breakouts
BUT sounds like your skin is fried from the topicals/rx stuff
NOW that u have been on spiro for a bit maybe back off
on the OTC acne products and rx stuff (are i still using differen)
Sorry cant be more helpful
such a struggle to find that right balance
I feel like i either have natural looking skin and normal texture with breakouts
OR fry my skin so its red and dry and tight but for the most part bump free
still searching for that happy middle ground
