Hello,

My hormonal issues have left me with melasma (darker patches of skin) under my eyes...it's kind of like hyperpigmentation but it's very difficult to lighten, much less completely remove.

So far, I have been semi-successful with aloe peels, lactic acid peels, balancing hormones as much as possible, vitamin C serum, etc.

BUT it's still there! I've had it for almost 2 years now, and I can't even fully cover it up with makeup. You can see a photo here (discoloration under my eyes):

Do any of you have this somewhere on your face? How do you deal with it?

Birth control can cause it (I have been off it for 7 years, so for me it's not the issue) or hormonal imbalances (I recently had a dermoid cyst removed, which might be partially to blame).

Please share your tips for treating it and also for covering it up!

i do not know how to help you treat the melasma but what kind of makeup do you usually use when you want to cover it? the only advice i can give (which you probably already know,) is that i think that cream foundations/cream textured concealers cover much better than liquid foundation or liquid concealers

Thanks. I use everything - liquid, cream, and powder on top!

Maybeline & bourjois concealers seem to work the best, but I have to pile one on top of the other to even make a difference.

Reading your signature I noticed you're using DIM, I remember my melasma was at its worst when I was experimenting with supplements. Right now I'm using these peel pads by Peter Thomas Roth and they seems to brighten me a little. No idea what to do about my hypo pigmentation:/

Hey, thanks for posting!

Have you taken DIM in the past? It's true, DIM makes melasma darker sometimes...but it makes my skin better overall so it's a dilemma. I'm not taking DIM as often now because my skin is under control, but the melasma is still there.

What does your hypopigmentation look like? What do you think caused it?

I'm not sure, I think I'm going to go to a derm. My friend had a similar spot on her back and she thinks it's caused by a fungus 0_0 so I'm going to get it checked out haha

Hello,

I know this thread is really old, but I'm wondering if my supplementing with DIM has made my melasma much worse. My acne is soooo much better, so I'm scared to stop, but I also think its making melasma worse. If you have gained any knowledge or have advice from the last three years, I would love to hear it!
Thank you!
