Cyclical Breakouts On The Pill

Does anyone know why someone would break out towards the end of the first week of pills and then again towards the end of the second? It's so weird, the breakouts aren't big at all, but my skin is pretty clear during the rest of my cycle and I don't understand why the breakouts come like clockwork. I am sure it is connected to hormones but I don't know too much about them. I am on ortho cyclen, if that's relevant.

Ortho tri-cyclin varies your hormone levels (hence the tri). Other pills keep your hormone levels more constant. Acne-prone people are more sensitive to hormonal changes, which is the root of all acne. Somehow, these changes cause a chain reaction - producing more oil, which gets trapped in pores prone to clogging, causing a blemish.

I would investigate other options with your prescribing doctor. =) Hope that helps!

The exact same thing happens to me and I'm on Yaz which is a regular birth control. I almost always have the worst breakouts at the end of first week, and then the end of second week. Though lately it has been all over the place.

Hi there CS99,
i noticed a few years back you were considering switching from otc lo to oc the monophasic one. Wondering why you decided against it? I am on otc lo currently and am wanting to switch as well but am nervous. Ive been very emotional/depressed and am constantly hungry. However i am not seeing the type of results i want to be seeing on my hormonal acne and the women that replied to you in that feed seemed to be really pro the monophasic version.
completely torn and confused and it doesnt help that this pill makes me foggy headed.
any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
