Never really had too much of a problem with acne, mild hormonal here and there, but it was always there I feel like. clogged pores and whiteheads really like to show up on my face. I was on birth control (mircette generic version, Viorele) for 9 months, and the first 6 it worked for PMS issues. Lately its been causing me to be emotionally crazy, depressed, lifeless, and more hormonal pimples around my mouth. Never had this problem as bad before. It's not too terrible but its not getting better, seems like a find a new pimple or two ( sometimes red sometimes a whitehead) every 4 to 5 days and they linger! Usually I get 1 or 2 every couple of weeks! Nothing cystic yet ( I hope not) but some of them don't feel good to the touch, as in they hurt a bit.
Long story short, I want to get off the pill ( and strangle the gynocolgoist who convinced me to pump my body with synthetic hormones), and I'm concerned about my break out getting worse. I was half convinced to try spiro, as I am going to my doctor tomorrow due to the emotional issues. I may need to be put on anti anxiety medication because of how much of an emotional roller coaster i am (I've been on celexa in the past and helped tremendously). But I don't think I can take spiro with depression medication. Plus I'm terrified of this initial breakout stage everyone talks about with spiro that is terrible. My acne isn't great, but I don't want it to be a monster on my face for months!
I am wondering if taking zinc and possibly evening primrose oil capsules would help. before i went on BC i was taking EPO capsules and they must have been working decently because I didn't get on BC because of acne, it wasn't really too much of an issue for me. But I am worried about this dreaded breakout after getting off of BC that I hear about so often too! I do a daily regimen of gentle face wash, benzoyl peroxide, gentle moisturizer (cerave) but it only helps those acnes that aren't hormonal, not really the hormonal ones.
Does zince and EPO help? Is there other natural supplements that can help? I am taking fish oil right now ( standard process, a good kind) but I don't think it's helping, maybe even clogging the pores. But who knows. I am so confused about what to do. Please help!
I was taking pill (yasmin) for 2 years but suddenly got depressed and moody with no reason after taking it for a year. I didn't have any pimple when I was on the pill.
So I decided to stop and didn't feel depress after that.
However after 3 months, I started to have pimples around my mouth and I went to see doctor and got vitamins like B6, B12, C, D, E etc.
Now it has been 6 months but it hasn't got any better, so I started taking EPO for about 3 weeks now and feel that pimple on my chin got a bit better.
I guess once you are off the pill, your depression will get better but it might take time for hormonal pimple to go away.
Thanks guys, I started EPO a few days ago. i have used it in the past for an extended length of time and it worked well, i only stopped it because i started the dreaded birth control. i hope it will help again but you never know how these things work lol. I also have been taking saw palmetto for 8 weeks but I can't really tell if it's working or not. I took a regular zinc 50mg a day for 4 weeks and it seemed to help alot. switched to optizinc with copper in it, 60mg a day and it seemed it didn't work and made acne worse, maybe i can't take the copper and zinc at the same time, or I already have too much copper in my system? I dunno. So i started taking the regular zinc i was already taking 2 days ago and we will see how it goes. I also take a women's one a day multi but i always have for years. someone told me to try brewers yeast, so i did for one day yesterday, but i woke up with big cyst on my upper right cheek, which i never get, so i don't know if its from that, or that my period is due at any minute, or what. i'm going to hold off on the brewers yeast because i already have introduced 2 new changes with the old zinc and EPO, and I don't want to get too crazy I have noticed that i get most of my acne around my mouth lately, and upper lip (even around my nose) they are the run of the mill red spots, that often get white in the center and then go away leaving a red mark. i have 5 or 6 right now, with the cyst on my cheek that hurts, and some red marks around my mouth. Defintiley more than usual. we will see how regular zinc, EPO, and saw palmetto go along with my multivitamin.
Just in case you decide to go down that route out of desperation, you can take spiro with SSRI anti-depressants (like Celexa). Well you can if you live in the UK - as my doctor prescribed it when I was already taking sertraline. I guess it could be different in other countries.
Yeah, that's true. I thought about it, but it is a last resort if it gets worse/doesn't slow down in the next 6 to 8 months. Taking something that affected my hormones kind of got me in this mess in the first place so I really want to try everything else first. i am going to do the dan regimen, already use cerave foaming wash and cerave moisturizer, and also neutrogena on the spot, but not like dan recommends and not as gentle. I also use dan's bp on my body, and might try that on my face as well as it is easier to spread and absorb gently. I do like toners and have used a good alcohol free one with vitamin b5 for years so i definitlely won't give that up lol. We'll see how it goes. I will still use zinc, EPO, and saw palmetto, as well as a multivitamin to help my insides and hopefully being more gentle on my skin plus good vitamins will help.
