Hi there. I am 20 nearly 21 at this point, and it seems my acne is worse than ever. I always had a few pimples in high school here and there. I went to my dermatologist and was prescribed to differin and benzaclin. I went away to college and started having horrible break outs. I went back and started taking birth control. This seemed to help a bit in addition to the topical medications. But of coarse this past year now I have cystic acne and it's out of control. I went back to the dermatologist and they changed me to epiduo and an antibiotic, doxycycline (generic brand). This helped for a little bit until it was back to horrible break outs and scarring. I started hiding and doing nothing on the weekends. I went back again to the dermatologist about 2 months ago and they now have me use atralin gel and the name brand for doxycycline which is supposed to work better. The atralin gel is great because it makes the scarring process a lot shorter. But the antibiotic of course worked in the beginning but is not anymore. I am in hiding as we speak because my whole face is covered. Over the past few years I have also tried facials. I know there is an option for accutane but I don't know if I will be able to handle the side effects. Any other suggestions or people have similar problems with trying multiple prescriptions?
I dont know how severe your condition is, but dont give up. First of all accept your acne and be confident. You are not handicap, you just have acne! Big deal.... You are young, maybe it will subside with age. Anyway, you posted you have tried many prescriptions with no result. I would definately not recommend you accutane. Better to double your problem than take this drug. Since medical suggestions didnt work, you can try natural ways. Apple cider vinegar as a lotion, face masks with yoghurt, honey, lemon and turmeric, lavender essential oil, snail cream as a moisturizer( great for healing). Honey and turmeric are high antiseptics and fast reductors for red marks and scarring. You can also try a herbal supplement to balance your hormones, but before check on them to know where the problem is. Anything you choose remember to be patient and persistent. Natural remedies need time to show improvement.
Also, sudocrem and vicks are great for spot topical treatment. Results within a night!
