Is This Hormonal Acne?

When I was in high school I never actually got an major acne issues, every once in a while in the forehead due to my hair and my chin probably because of leaning on the desk but never on the cheeks. But when I turned 17, I started getting mild acne on my cheeks, neck and at the back. I'm turning 20 soon and this is starting to get to me. I'm starting to think this is hormonal acne not bacterial.

Does anyone know if this is hormonal acne? If so, what can I do to deal with this for men.

First, welcome to the boards, lolzak! (:

It's possible it could be a mixture of both bacterial and hormonal. When I was still breaking out it was in some of the same areas: jawline, neck, and back. I pretty much broke out everywhere, though.

My dermatologist told me that it was hormonal and bacterial, so she gave me a hormonal treatment as well as a sulfer bodywash. The bodywash didn't make a difference... it wasn't until I treated it hormonally and waited the appropriate amount of time that it went away completely. I think this is partially because you break out from a hormonal imbalance and then it gets worse (spreads, etc.) because of bacteria... this is especially the case if you pick at your acne.

A few options for men are vitamin D (regulates hormones), saw palmetto (a natural anti-androgen), and DIM (an anti-androgen and a promoter of healthy estrogen metabolism.) I've also read about some guys having success with B5, zinc, or other vitamins/supplements.
