Will Antibiotics Help With Initial Breakout On Bc?

I was wondering if I should resort to antibiotics for my initial breakout on Yaz. I've been breaking out for 9 months after taking 2 weeks off yaz and restarting mid cycle, since then I went off it and then went back on. This is my third month on BC, second on yaz, and this is the worst month yet. Out of all the 9 months of this hell.

You have to keep in mind that antibiotics are unfortunately not an "instant" remedy, they take time to actually get fully in sync with your body. Generally speaking, antibiotics take around 8 weeks to actually work (from what I have been told by medical professionals). I can't really answer this question though because, I have no idea what 'yaz' or 'BC' are?

It would probably be best to ask your doctor (dermatologist preferably) this question and see what he/she says about it all.

You should also consider that it could be the products you are using on your face that could influence the breakouts. Do a bit of background research on every product before you use it and also a patch test. Better safe than sure.

It could help if the initial breakout is really upsetting you that much. But this is only your 2nd month on Yaz, i don't think you can count Diane since you were only on it for a month and they're 2 diff BCPs. My worst months were month 3 and 4. I say hang in there. Antibiotics could cause "purging" even though it's technically not supposed to?

I can't believe 3 and 4 were actually your worst. Did it eventually help you instead of making it worse? I really don't know if I can handle it potentially getting even worse. The right side of my chin, every 1/8 inch of it is covered in dark red marks. The left side is pretty bad too but not as bad. And they keep coming. If the worst is yet to come for me, I'll probably just have a nervous breakdown every single day.

lifelong confusion, are you scarring from your cysts? If not, as much as it absolutely sucks to endure relentless breakouts, I don't think you'll really know if yaz is capable of working for you unless you wait a couple more months. If you're scarring, then it's more urgent to stop the breakouts. Do you have the option of getting cortisone injections? Regarding antibiotics, I haven't taken them for acne, but I have read of several peoples' breakouts stopping quite quickly after beginning antibiotics.

I don't REALLY get scars (some small holes only), but I do get pretty bad hyperpigmentation. I have very light skin, and dark red marks all over chin and cheeks. There's no way I can go outside or show my face to anyone without makeup. I don't know if these are big enough to get injections, I mostly get these nodules deep under the skin that go away but the hard bumps linger for months after. Is that cysts? Sometimes they come to head, sometimes they don't.

Well yaz did use to work for me, except it never caused an initial breakout before. It used to do the opposite, perfectly clear me up within 2 weeks. I don't know why it's the opposite now. In all honestly, nothing will surprise me anymore.

It eventually cleared me up. At 5 months I had one last breakout and then my skin suddenly just stopped breaking out and for the last 3 months I've had clear skin except for the occasional PMS spot. I've got a lot of hyperpigmentation left too from the continuous breakouts, but I think those are easily treatable as long as your skin stops breaking out. I've been doing peels and AHA and they've already faded by a third of what they used to look like.

Yeah, that sounds like what I get. I've never been able to figure out if they are cysts or nodules, to be honest. That's good that you aren't scarring much. I also have red marks that stick around for so long and I can never go without makeup out in public.

Hmm maybe your hormones are still out of whack from going off yaz for two weeks and starting up again mid cycle and that's why it isn't working nearly as quickly this time. It seems ridiculous that something like that could cause issues for so long but considering some of the stuff I've read on here (that poor girl who took plan b and her skin is still freaking out 6 months later), I wouldn't be too surprised...

No such thing as hormonal acne. It's just "plain old acne" and there are no unique types it is all caused the same thing: too much sebum, pores that clog too easily and bacteria that proliferates deep within the pore. Go on antibiotics, it will help to control some of the infection and give you some relief.

Yeah, it is ridiculous. I remember in my teens when I was prescribed BC for acne (which at that point wasn't 1/3 as bad) I didn't particularly need it for contraception, so I was pretty careless and would miss several pills every cycle. Yet it still made my face perfectly clean.

I don't know what it is anymore, I'm starting to think this is just how my body is going to be from now on, and that there's no escape from this.

And you can't stay on antibiotics forever, its just a temporary fix.

Hey there, sorry to hear you are having a rough time. My breakouts on Yasmin have been the worst 2nd and 3rd month. I did ask my derm for an antibiotic because the inflammation and the larger spots were leaving marks and didn't want to scar. I have been on Doxy 200mg a day since my 3rd week in and I have to say I do believe it has really kept things manageable. I still broke out 2nd and 3rd but smaller spots and have had maybe 3-4 really swollen hard spots since taking it. You just have to work slowly and wean off of them when you clear. You do become suceptible to stomach upset, but taking a really good vegan probiotic at least 2 hours after has helped relieve any of that for me. Antibiotics do also interfere with the birth control conception part, but the hormones should still work to level out. I know you are discouraged and having a hard time and my heart goes out to you. I really wanted to give up many times over the last few months, but it will get better if you keep on a good skin care regimen, eat well and take care of yourself. I have wanted to spend days hiding away, but now that things are getting better I can say I am glad to have gotten through the worst. Stay strong, feel free to reach out anytime if you need to talk, vent, have questions.
