I just started taking Diane 35 (it's been 10 days) since it helped me so much years ago, and since Yaz stopped really doing anything against acne. I started taking it after 3 months off birth control. So far I have 3 huge deep ones on my shoulder, and I have gotten 4 big ones on my face, all within this period of 10 days. This doesn't usually happen this much, especially in this time of the month. Could Diane actually be making it worse, or have I not taken enough for it to make any effect yet? I know it made my skin amazing when I was in my teens, now I'm in my early twenties. I don't know what to do anymore.
It just sounds like an initial break out...Diane won't start working within 10 days. I don't know what your experience with Diane was or how severe your acne was in your teens, but your hormone levels are definitely going to be different from when you were younger, so your experience with Diane this time probably won't be the same.
I just finished my first pack of Diane 35 with virtually 0 results. Im breaking out every few days, with 3 or so painful pimples on my face and a few on my shoulders each time. This is one of the worst periods my skin ever went through... not sure what to do. Still saving money for hormone testing and doc since i dont have insurance.
I got about 6 painful nodules now. Still haven't started a new pack but by the looks of it Diane really is making it worse. The month before I was breaking out about once a week, now this whole month on Diane ive been breaking out every 2-3 days. I don't know whether to continue or to stop? Advice please? My doc is on vacation and I can only see her 3 weeks from now. Sigh.
I am nearing the end of my D35 3 month course. From, the 3 months I have nearly been on it I will say:
Month 1 - broke me out like a cray cray spotty eugh Do not even know how to describe it
Anyway, it bought ALL the tiny bumpy closed comedones alll to whiteheads and a few very painful pustles. Absolutely horrendous.
Month 2 - smaller breakouts than last month. Still noticeable acne though plus some painful spots on cheek which I never get.
Month 3 - I now have muchhhhhh clearer skin where all the closed comedones USED to be. Don't get me wrong there is STILL a lot of hyperpigmention left after the world war 3 of zits but it is not SMOOTHER than before. STILL breaking out here and there though. But, they are still massive zits that you can spot a mile off.
Bottom line - I have had ENOUGH of acne and have been referred to a derm and I hope to be put on Accutane. My main reason for this is (a) I do NOT want to have artificially induced periods for the majority of my life (b) I'd rather try CURING my acne than suppressing it. © I wouldn't want to come off D35 and for all the acne to come back would be heart breaking.
I wish you all the luck and in all honesty had I stayed on D35 it would have prob cleared me up. If you have patience and time I would say stick to it and stick to it if you do not want to go on Accutane.
Best wishes (:

Thank you for sharing your experience! My acne is definitely hormonal, always has been, so I guess I believe that fixing my hormonal imbalance will actually mean curing it for me. It's just so unusual right now considering that in the past, birth control would always start working for me right away. In my mid and late teens it worked wonders on my skin, and my condition was actually much better then. I don't know what happened, thought you were supposed to get less acne as you age, not more. Now my acne is def more serious, and bc seems to be making it worse so far. I just hope I can make till my appointment 3 weeks from now. I hope Accutane works for you. Keep us updated!
I would stick it out. Yaz also stopped working for me after 2 years. I had to up my dose of spiro but I decided not to.
It took 4 months for my skin to adapt to Yaz. I would give it 3-4 months. In the meantime if it gets worse get injections or ice them. Good luck.
Thanks. I've never been on Spiro, but I'm thinking of asking my doc for it. How effective was it for you?
I was on Yaz for 2 years which has a low dose of spiro which is what makes Yaz so effective. If Yaz stopped working you and you want to try spiro I would suggest up your dosage. Thats what my derm wanted me to do since the low dose in yaz was not working anymore
It was pretty effective breakouts were worse in the first 3 months. Then my back cleared and face cleared just leaving scars. Until about a couple months ago it worked.
This might be a long shot, but you could be breaking out as a result of going off Yaz. Lots of people start breaking out a few months after going off strong pills like Yaz and Diane 35. I do also think it could be an initial breakout though, because when I tried to go on spiro a couple years ago, I got a 2-3 pea-sized cysts within a couple weeks. Of course, my dermatologist insisted there was "no way" it had anything to do with the spiro..... ugh.
I'm on Diane 35 and didn't get an initial breakout but I didn't notice an improvement in my skin for a few months. It hasn't kept me totally clear these past couple years, but it has kept the nodules at bay for the most part.
Yup, It is now safe to say Diane made it a lot worse. I had 6 active cysts (which I probably never had before in my life) earlier this week, and now I feel another one emerging before those even heal. The same exact thing happened with Yaz last time. I honestly don't know if I can take this. Even if it does get better, I'd rather go back to what it used to be before i started diane at this point. At this pace im going to have a face full of scars by the end of this month.
Diane couldn't have made it worse if your acne was hormonal... as in my case I still have no idea whether my acne is hormonal... I had taken a blood test once and the doctor said it was okay, yet I have lots of problems that seem to be hormonal. So I decided I would finally do something and now I'm taking my second pack of diane 35, it's like a week since I've started this one, and so far I haven't seen any improvement yet. By the way I had an awful breakout during my first pack of Diane but then it just gone away and I didn't have any pimples on my face during the 7 days break.
I was so happy about it, although acne on my back and shoulders didn't get any better at all. But yesterday on my sixth pill I got a few new little pimples. One big and scary on my chin, another big near my nose which is almost gone now, and a few little near my nose and on my forehead. I'm so frustrated, I'm about to quit taking Diane cause of the side effects, they are really weird in my case (I ocassionally get panic attacks at night (have a difficulty breathing) and in the morning I feel so intoxicated that I am always late at my studies). I don't know what to do. My body looks so bad due to acne that I won't be able to become someone I want unless I have it cured... and I only have two months to go.
always in depression and every day crying... so tired of this crap. honestly, why this thing doesn't just go away?!!
I've been going through the same thing. I got breathing problems in the middle of the night too, where I would wake up and gasp for air, as if I was under a blanket for a long time. I would get random panic attacks usually in the late afternoon. I would get numbness in my face. I got fed up with it, as well as the crazy breakouts that were 10 times worse than when I was off the pill, after 5 days into my second cycle, and started Yaz. I still broke out all month on Yaz, except the 9 days in the middle of the month where I got 0 breakouts, which is an improvement (before I was getting breakouts at least twice a week). Now it's that time of the month, and just during the week before, I already got 6 nodules on my chin and jaw. And the worst time for me is usually last days of period. I dread whats about to happen next.
I stopped getting panic attacks and breathing problems, but I've been very depressed, always feeling insecure, have lowest self esteem than ever, crying all the time, it's very stressful. This is making me want to go on anti depressants.
Obgyn said she will prescribe Spiro if Yaz doesn't help for another 2 months. I have scars on my face that I know will last forever now. And it seems to be far from over.
Hang in there!! I continue to read experiences from other women on Yaz, yasmin and diane all taking about 3-4 months to truly see improvement. I'm on my 10th week of Spiro 50 mg and almost completed my second month of Yasmin. Things have absolutely improved from my intial breakout. The state of affairs got WAY worse then when I started. But if we never started there would probably never have been a stop to it. We may be going through a very difficult time, but we are on a path, on a treatment with the hopes of getting to clear very soon. Without treatment, then what? Stay strong and keep sharing your progress. Sending lots of positive thoughts your way!

i have started diane 35 again after being clear for 4-5 months. Im almost done my 1st pack. its takes about atleast 3 mths/packs and my face will start clearing up. I hate that its back again i thought it wouldnt. I guess thats why people were suggesting accutane because its not suppose to come back at all. I was on it before for 4 months then i stopped because i dont want to be on pills forever but it came back so im treating it again. I was clear for awhile after 4 or 5 mths.
Goodluck everyone!

Thanks for your reassurances. I'm on my second month of Yaz and third month if you count that one month on Diane 35. I'm still breaking out like crazy, and i'm wondering if this month might actually be worse than the previous one. I don't know if that's even normal. Sigh.
