I saw so many other women making an account to tell their experience and I thought it's important that I do too. I have always had oily skin and thought I had an acne problem until I actually developed an acne problem. I would get about two big zits a week before my period and I was used to that. However, I decided to get the Nexplanon this summer because it was more convenient. I REGRET IT! About a 2 weeks after having it inserted I started seeing small pimples on my shoulders and I assumed it was from my conditioner or sweat because it was July. I, then noticed lots of tiny pimples on my forehead but I thought it was from my bangs, I'd never had bangs until then either. I then noticed severe cystic acne all over my jawline and cheeks. I did my research on the best acne routines and I started using cetaphil daily wash, cetaphil foam wash for acne prone and oily skin, witch hazel and oil free moisturizer. I wash my face twice a day, morning and night, after washing I use a cotton ball and apply the witch hazel and once that naturally dries I apply the moisturizer. I cut my nails as short as possible to avoid picking, I cut out dairy, greasy foods, fast foods, soda/pop, and drank lemon water constantly. I keep my hands and hair off my face. I've literally tried everything, the acne is now covering my shoulders and going down my spine, stopping at the middle of my back. My skin is ruined due to this. I've been waiting since September to have it removed and was put on a urgent removal list, having called every doctor in my town I finally scheduled an apt for Nov. 27 13 days!!! I've never been more excited for a doctors apt. I've heard numerous horror stories about this implant and I would never recommend it. I not only suffered from acne, weight gain (15 pounds so far), but it's drastically enhanced my depression. I also have been so insecure due to it ruining my skin. I'm terrified to be on birth control again. I'll be sure to post updates after my removal so you know what changes I undergo.

Hey guys, I posted a while back and Im here with my post removal update. I have yet to find any online that really specify the skin issue and when that resolves. Unfortunately, I got mine out Dec. 1st 2017 and today is Dec. 22nd 2017. Its not been very long but Ive noticed a HUGE change in my moods. I feel more stable and in control of myself. I have yet to start my period and I have multiple symptoms of a period just no bleeding. Ive researched and some peopl dont have a cycle for up to 6 months after removal. I havent noticed a change in my weight however Ill go one week and eat probably once a day, then this week Ive eaten a lot everyday. Im hoping Im just about to start my period. My skin has gotten slightly better then something causes a flare. I think its the hormones leaving my body. I currently have 4 big cysts on my face and neck, and a few smaller ones. The rest of my skin is actually going really well. The small whiteheads are barely present. My face has become increasingly dry which is great! My doctor expressed that the Nexplanon releases extra oil all over your body. I already had oily skin but with the extra oil, it was impossible to maintain. I havent been following my routine as I should but its been so busy. Starting today Im going to follow a strict skin care routine. I usually wash my face with cetaphil acne prone foaming wash, cetaphil daily cleanser, witch hazel toner, and moisturizer (I need to buy the cetaphil) then follow through with lots of water and taking hair, skin, & nail vitamins. Ill update soon as I follow my routine! Wishing everyone luck because in no time will you have it out and feel like yourself again. Xoxo

I know this post is older but I also wanted to make an account just to reply to this post. I got the Nexplanon implant when I was 18 years old, I'm 23 now and have had it in for about 5 years. I've had it replaced once around the 3 year markand have an appointment next year to get it replaced again although I'm not sure if that's what I want to do. When I first got the implant, I had a period for a 3 months straight and then after that I didn't have one at all (some symptoms every month or so but not actual bleeding) for over a year or two. I guess eventually my body got adjusted to it because one day randomly I just started getting periods again (I was always irregular before birth control, only had about 3 a year) and then when they started now they're all sporadic and not really on a schedule and I never know if it's going to be a few days of spotting or like a heavy flow. I hate that it's not consistent, but aside from that, on to the acne, I had acne growing up. I'd get the cystic acne pimple on my chin or under my nose ever so often but ever since I've been on this it's ruined my face. Every month around the time I should get my period my face breaks out with at least four hugecystic zits under my nose, between my eyebrows, on my chin, etc. as well as it's caused me to have crazy amount of smaller zits and texture all up the sides or my face (like a sideburn sort of area) My face is scared, and more red than ever and when all the zits are there at once it's a nasty nightmare. I also believe alot of my crazy moods and headaches come from side effects of this, even still after I've had it this many years. But I've had the implant in so long because it's the only birth control I've ever been on and the other options offered to me I'm not so sure about. I really don't like the idea of an IUD due to the complication I've heard about the pill sounds like it's easy to slip up with. So I've been debating on getting it out all together to see if my body adjusts in any way and if I notice a big change then take action from there on trying something else. I'm not sure, but I appreciate everyone's responses on this because I'm happy to see the steps other people took and the other options people preferred if I do decide to get it taken out. It's ruined my face so much I wish I would have done it a long time ago.

I have see a lot of people talking about this topic and I wanted to say something. My acne has gotten worse with the implant and it really sucks because I cant even go a day without people pointing out my acne. But the implant really works. I have had it in for three and a half years and it work. So yea.

i know this is an old post but have people had success in their skin clearing once getting they got the implant out ?

Ive had mine out for nearly 6 months (as it gave me cystic acne when i have never had spots before) but my skin is still not how it used to be before the implant, any advice on how to get my hormones to recover ?

ive just gone back on the pill but too early to see if that helps
