I took OTC lo for 2 months, I'm fairly sure that's what caused the severe acne I had. I'm now on my 2nd month of Lo/Ovral (so this is month 4 on BC) and have been using Benzamycin for 7 weeks. I just started Solodyn too. I am noticing a slight decrease, finally, in oiliness. So I think the hormones are starting to level out a little bit. But I think it's going to take a few more months. I did notice an improvement in breakouts during th first month of Lo/Ovral so that was encouraging.
ortho Tri LO messed my skin up badly in 2004, but it worked out because then I was able to go on accutane. Im on Yaz now and started it 2 months ago for Birth Contol. Im in the begggining of my third pack and Im breaking out a bit. more than I have at once sinse off the tane for 2 years. Its mostly non inflammed zits and a couple smaller inflammed ones but its scaring me. Im hoping its just my body getting used the the hormone changes. Yaz is FDA approved for treating acne so.. I would hope it would atleast not make it worse and come back on me. that is why I chose it.
Just finished month three of Yasmin...things are looking up. I don't have any underlying pimples that are visible. I've also noticed my skin being drier the last three weeks. I don't have any active acne either at this point. I did have a bad break out a week ago that every clogged pore I has exploded though. Glad I'm past that.
Hi. I've been prescribed birth control pills (Ava 3D), not for my acne but I asked the doctor and he said it should clear up. It hasn't made a difference it's gotten a lot worse. I'm breaking out everywhere. When does it kick in and start to work? Or will it not? Please help!

It takes up to 3 months to see improvement with oral contraceptives according to the following article:
