Is scarring from cortisol shots temporary?

I would expect the answer is no, like other acne scars. But I've heard some people say that the depressions in their skin from cortisone shots eventually filled in. What is the ultimate result? Is discoloration the main issue, or pitting also?

I am considering having a cortisone shot for a cyst that won't go away but I don't know if it's worth it or not.

I am not a fan of steroids. Way too many side effects/risks including scarring. I honestly don't think it's worth it unless it's medically necessary.

Cortisone injections have few side effects. The most common side effect is temporary atrophy of the fatty tissue around the injection site, which results in a slight depression in the skin. Skin can take several months to return to normal in some cases.
