Caveman Regimen
Ever since I can remember I have had terrible skin. It all started back in sixth grade when I was twelve
I started breaking out bad and over the past 20 plus years have tried everything to control my skin and fix
the issue. Throughout middle school and high school I went to countless dermatologist to try to heal my skin and
was put on Retin A, tetracyclin, sacylic acid and benzol peroxide creams and even Accutane twice. Basically you name
a treatment they had back then and I had tried it. Little did I know at the time I had celiac disease which was
probably the most major culprit of my skin but back then no one really knew what that was and the link they now know
that food plays. But from trying all that nothing ever seemed to work in the long run and I became depressed and
smoked for many years, drank heavily and made alot of terrible choices which did not help my skin. I also got on the
proactiv craze and tried that for a year in the summer while was in the sun and not wearing sun screen. Fast forward
a few years to the college days and started learning more about the natural approach to skin care and started realizing
maybe all these harsh products were ruining my skin so starting trying every organic skin care and herbal remedy there
was which included papaya enzymes, honey, organixc cleansers, coconut oil etc but again my skin was always red inflamed
and still broke out no matter what i did. I then figured maybe was internal issues since started reading alot of detox
and diet books which every book seemed to know the magic answer to cure skin and again tried every crazy diet and detox
out there but with no results. It just seems no matter what I did I couldnt fully get my skin under control it was always
super irritated, red and oily. I would go through multiple oil blotter sheets a day. I also continued to see other skin
care experts who convinced me they had the trick that would fix and make my skin normal but again every single one my
skin would just get more inflamed or red and whatever I put on my face made it burn. I finally gave up the all natural
approach saw another derm within the past yr who said rosacea and tried finacea etc which did not work and another derm
said its sub derm and put me on a steroid which thinned my skin and again made worse
and lately been using toleraine dermo cleanser and toleraine double repair moisturizer but still my skin is now just beyond oily and still red and inflamed.
It has gotten to the point where I decided to take the plunge and try the crazy method of the caveman regimen and say
no matter what happens for 90 days I am not going to let water or anything touch my face and document every day here
to keep me on track. I figure what is the worst that can happen in 90 days it looks like shit and then I go back to
trying something else. Least then I will know this was a terrible idea then rather then people just say it without trying.
I scheduled a derm appt 3 months out from not just so worst case scenario does turn terrible can go back to the drawing
board. So here goes nothing and heres my 90 day journey of the caveman regimen doing no water or anything........
Day 1
So the night before I took a shower and just rinsed my face with water around 700pm and figured that was the last time
was going to let water and today is day 1 of starting this regimen. I woke up and already just after one night of
not using products my skin seems more inflamed broken out and clogged. It makes zero sense even 12-15 hours of just
not using a moisturizer and cleanser my skin should look this crappy and makes me still believe something is majorly
wrong that the fact only 15 hours have gone by and my skin is so broken out even more then yesterday. I went to work
and noticed my face did not burn today during the day but as the day progressed it was extremly oily more then usual.
I had some of those oil blotter sheets and soaked through 3 of them throughout the day amd was starting to become self
conscious of how oily it was. I looked in the mirror to see how looked and to be honest it looked terrible today and
seemed like starting to get clogs all over my nose and zits around my cheeks. My cheeks are still red and inflamed so
already 1 day in and kind of discouraged...
Day 2
Well today was no better. I woke up again hoping that maybe the redness and inflamed skin would have subsided a bit
but still there and still breaking out on my nose and cheeks. The clogs on my nose are becomming more prominent and
now loooking in the mirror u can see red bumps on my nose and looks like there a few small white heads forming on my
cheeks. Today again was another oily mess. I went through another 3-4 oil blotter sheets soaked through and was very
self conscious at work. I had a meeting with my boss and district manager which felt uncomfortable with how oily and
irritated my skin was becomming. On top of the oil I also feel like the skin in a wierd way is starting to dry out. It
just feels hot and burns/irritated a little bit and still discouraged at the end of day 2. I have been reading other
peoples posts to make myself feel better and see how it takes time so just trying to tough out the first few weeks.
So far no dead skin mask just an oily mess where skin is breaking out more....
Day 3
So today I am writing this already feel like I am starting to regret this regimen. My skin is still extremely oily yet dry at the same time. When I look in the mirror my cheeks do not look as inflamed and look like they burning today but my skin has definitely become clogged and purging. Normally my nose is just extremely oily and does not really break out but 3 days in my nose is clogged and breaking out in red bumps. The side of my nose was a dry whitehead where couldnt help but pop and now the whole side of my nose is inflamed. Also I if you look closely i have a lot of dry little white stuff like small rice looking grains coming out of my pores on nose. If I run my fingers across it falling out. As I said I am already discouraged and starting to rethink this. Reading other peoples blogs I see they all say similar things the first few weeks so trying my hardest to stick this.....
Day 4
So today was a little bit different then the prior days. I woke up this morning and looked in the mirror and my skin looked so much less inflamed. My cheeks are always bright red and it looks like I have a bad sunburn and hence the doctor said I had sub derm but today my cheeks werent really that red at all and my skin tone looked so much better. I still have clogged pores on my nose and a few break outs on my cheeks around my nose but on the plus side my skin tone looked so much better. I also go through multiple oil sheets that I soak through on a daily basis which sounds gross but today I used one at 4pm and it barely had any on it so the oil level went way down!! My skin is starting to become more dry and itch. It still does not look good with the breakouts have had past few days but on the plus side this the first day in months my skin not overly oily all day... I dont get why any cleanser/moisturizer makes my skin so red nd irritated yet do nothing the irritation goes away but is then super dry....
Day 5
so today I woke up and my acne that was arising from starting this program on my nose completly dissapeard which usually takes weeks to go away. My cheeks look alot better for acne to and looks like the zits that came ither day just disappeared. My gf even made a comment and asked what I am doing to my skin today and i asked why and she said it looks good and keep doing what doing.also I used 1 oil blotter sheet today and was again not alot of oil on it. So that was the positives of today on the negative side was out in the sun today and xheeks still red and skin is drying out and starting to itch. I think it more just my mind wanting to wash it and splash water and had tough time today saying maybe shoukd just go back to water but made through with not. It itxhes right now but getting ready for bed and realize my skin does look better after 5 days compared to win was spending 20 min in a bathroom at night washing moisturizing and using skin products... The benefit of this method is take zero time... I just really wish the redness on cheeks will eventuslly go away....
Day 6
Today I woke up and skin was again clearer then has been in long time and today the first day I hadn't had to use any oil blotted sheets. Skin is still dry but just looking in mirror the irritation in the cheeks has gone way down! The past week has been horrible and the breakout had in beginning has disappeared but I'm back starting to feel good about this regimen. We took a little family vaca for the weekend and I ate terrible today so will see if that effects skin. I had 2 coffees a 5 hour energy drink ice cream and McDonald's. I usually eat super healthy cause know food effects skin just was on vaca w the gf and for first time in long time felt comfortable w way skin looked so didnt really think about it. Hopefully that doesn't irritate my skin and going back to eating good again tomorrow..
