I'm a 29-year old male who has suffered from acne for the best part of 16 years. I tried more regimens than I can probably remember, including isotretinoin (e.g. Accutane), benzoyl peroxide and other topical treatments, and a myriad of dietary variations. I even considered psychosomatic causes, which seemed to make sense in my case (there's a great book on this subject if you believe that to be the root of your acne problem), and several other off-the-beaten-track approaches, like "grounding". Don't get me wrong, I wasn't looking for a magic bullet, but I was already eating and living as clean as possible.
For several years now, I had been convinced that diet was the key, and I have been experimenting relentlesslyever since, but could never identify a clear pattern. That's because, for all those variations, one thing remained constant: intake of dietary fat. And I'm referring to meat and fish, fish oil, nuts, avocadoes, quality olive oil, etc, not hydrogenated vegetable oils and similar crap. I don't even demonise fat nowadays, everything I have read points to evidence that you need fat for a variety of purposes and to stay healthy over the long term. But for whatever reason, it makes my skin break out. To be honest, despite being over the moon regarding my skin, which has never been clearer since I was 13, I'm a little concerned about taking them from my diet altogether. Fortunately, I've found an enlightened doctor who's not a dumbass and doesn't say inane s*** like "Oh no, acne has absolutely nothing to do with diet" (Yes, I've once heard that from a dermatologist), so I'm quite curious to know his take on this amazing discovery of mine.

I agree that it might not work for many people, this is just what has worked for me. However, I wouldn't dismiss it just yet, since it seems that you not only eliminated fat from your diet for a week but also almost all nutrients. You were nutrient deficient for a week, and that surely can't help... just saying we actually tried different things.
