Benzoyl Peroxide Side Effects

Hi-

I've had mild/moderate acne for the past 8 months before that I had acne for 3 years but had 3 moths where it went completely after using finacea 20% azealic acid and trimethoprim for 6 months. Since then I haven't taken any oral tablets to combat it as I would prefer to not become dependent on them and for it to just come back later. I also think that finacea has become ineffective.

Last night I started on 10% benzoyl peroxide (quinoderm) - followed by Bull Dog sensitive moisturiser. This morning I had very red skin which has persisted through the day. Is this a normal side effect of a benzoyl peroxide based product and if so how long will these persist?

Thanks a lot for any help.

if you must use BP, dont use 10% that is wayyyy too harsh. start off with 2.5 and then work up to 5% but stop there. 5% should be as effective but much less irritating. i find that using BP gives me flakes even if i moisturize

I started with the 5% (the doctor gave me it) a week later, i got redness, i thought it would go away so i kept using it and now, i gotten more even in places that i would never get a pimple and the redness is still here, its been a year too...

I agree that 10% is too harsh. Start with 2.5% benzoyl peroxide. Studies have actually shown that the 2.5% is just as effective as the 10% without all the irritation and side effects.

ps.You could always use the 10% as a spot treatment for emergencies so you didn't waste your money.
