Little bump left over from nodule or cyst?

  • Hi everyone! I had this deep, hormonal acne bump pop about 3 weeks ago now. I believe it is a nodule. Not sure of the difference between nodule and cyst but deep under the skin and it never came to a head. Never showed signs of even really having a head.

Over the last 3 weeks its gone down a bit to where from the surface, you cant really see elevation anymore. But when I wash my face, there is definitely a solidified little lump under my skin. And if I stretch out my skin the lump will protrude.

I added pictures, the first one shows when its flat, and the second picture is when I stretch out the skin. You can see the lump thats just kinda stuck right there.

Will this eventually go down?? Will it dissolve into my skin and flatten over time?? Or does it actually have a head that just needs time to come to the surface??

    Thank you!!

If it's hard it's probably a nodule. They can sometimes go away but sometimes they won't for long periods of time. You can always get a cortisone shot for it if it's bugging you. I always recommend cortisone shots if it looks like it will scar, but in your case you can't even see it unless you protrude it from what I can tell, so it's up to you whether you wait it out or go get a cortisone shot.

@dan thank you for your response. Its officially been 10 weeks since the beginning of the nodule. It is now completely flat from the surface, and even when I protrude it, it still looks flat. But I can feel it! There is a little ball underneath my skin. I have a follow up with my derm in about a month. Im trying so hard not to mutilate my face until then! Do you have any experience with these? Im wondering if it eventually will just keep shrinking and disappear or if its permanent.

I don't have personal experience. I've had nodules but they all went away on their own.

Absolutely, positively, leave it completely alone. Don't pick. Don't play. Leave it be. See what your doc says when you go in.
