I had acne breakouts on my forehead, so I took trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole for a month, and I was given adapalene, a sunscreen, and Sebionex moisturizing cream. It completely cleared my forehead by August 5, 2018. I remained in this state for a year until August 2019, when I started getting pimples on my forehead and cheeks again, but not as much as before. Could this be related to possible damage to my skin barrier?
I had small outbreaks and dry patches. As a result, I started using a cream called Clotriplex, which contains betamethasone, clotrimazole, and gentamicin a triple cream. After using it for six days, I had a reaction, with more and larger pimples. I visited the dermatologist again, and they prescribed trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole again. I took it for a month, but this time my skin didn't clear up as it did last time. I had a follow-up appointment, but I couldn't attend because the clinic closed due to the pandemic.
Now, I have these breakouts every two days since 2020, and I don't know what to do or what the cause might be. Also, my skin feels very tight, flakes, is excessively dry and dehydrated, and my follicles are swollen. My entire face has a textured appearance due to the inflammation of my follicles.
I always had horrible experiences with antibiotics myself. Plus they are dangerous and should only be used short term. For me, they never made any difference. My skin was worse when I was on them. I am dumbfounded why doctors prescribe them for acne, particularly when there are so many other alternatives that work so much better and are less dangerous.
At any rate, have you tried The Regimen? It should get you back to clear. Just start very slowly since your skin is already sensitive.
