And I owe it to all the information I gleaned from all of your posts, thank you! I had never heard of fungal acne before reading the forums here. It seemed to describe the new breakouts I've had for the last 4 years. I went to the derm and got all kinds of prescription creams, which healed the pustules once the pus had been expressed, but I wanted something to prevent them in the first place. Don't we all? I got shampoo with Ketoconazole and that seemed to have an immediate effect on the pustules that had already come up. Still not great at prevention, though, but still better than before. . I then read someone posting about how important the acid mantle is, and realized most of the soaps I'd been using were on the basic side of neutral. I went back to Azelaic acid cream (Finacea) which had done nothing by itself but in combination with the Ketoconazole, is helping with preventing the pustules from appearing in the first place. It's not perfect but it's a noticeable improvement on my skin. Instead of getting at least 6 new pustules a day, now it's down to 1 to 2. I'll take it! I also dab tea tree oil on newly-expressed spots and apply calcium carbonate/kaolin clay overnight on them, but I was doing that before I started the new combo treatment. Hope this helps someone!
