I've been finding any type of exfoliation I try breaks me out. This isn't a purge. I was using AHAs for over a year and never got over the purge stage. Every time I tried, the next day or couple of days after I broke out, mainly on my forehead. Never inflamed but always bumps or clogged pores, and always quite a lot of stuff inside.
I hadn't used AHAs for around three weeks and my skin was actually looking pretty good apart from the hyperpigmentation, but I decided to try physical exfoliation with a wash cloth two days in a row. Then broke out a couple of days later.
Anyone else find they cant do any kind of exfoliation?
The most likely reason that defoliation causes break outs is that you have fungal acne, not ordinary acne. Defoliating skin breaks down the natural skin barrier which allows the fungus to invade the pores and cause acne like symptoms.
Fungal acne is caused by taking antibiotics and some other meds. People often start with ordinary acne, which changes to fungal acne over time from taking antibiotics and other meds. Treating fungal acne as though it is ordinary acne makes the "acne" worse and worse.
Doctors don't know about fungal acne.
People with fungal acne should NOT defoliate their skin as doing so will make their "acne" worse.
Fungal acne can be treated safely and cheaply with over the counter topical antifungal creams.
