This will be my first post here. I am 30 year old and still occasionally getting cystic pimple either due to ingrown hair because of my rough beard or after whiteheads pop.
The question i have is this. What do you guys put on your pimple area when the whitehead pops and you remove excess dirt out of it. I started putting on OtC anti bacterial ointment thinking it is an open wound so I should treat it as is. However, my skin becomes discolored (redish) the next day. The pimple now looks more like a cyst now.
what is your aftercare regimen after the whitehead busts?

Use tea tree oil or eucalyptus oil on a q tip/cotton bud. Tea tree or eucalyptus oil are antibacterial and antifungal.
I would also apply an antifungal cream such as clotrimazole cream (canesten) to the affected area (with clean hands - twice washed), because having acne at 30 together with having cystic pimples due to ingrown hairs and the pimple turning into a cyst when you apply antibacterial cream (which will favour the fungus), are strong signs that the acne is fungal acne (caused by taking antibiotics etc) not ordinary acne.
You do need to guard against bacterial infection on any open wound, but it is important to apply antibacterial AND antifungal products (or a product that is both antibacterial AND antifungal) to guard against BOTH types of infection.
Ring Gard if you can get it (try shops that sell Indian products) is both antibacterial and antifungal.
