I typed a long thing and then accidentally deleted it so urg. But yeah, basically ive tried everything now. Had acne since I was 8 and I'm 21 now. Has anyone been prescribed accutane with skin similar to mine or been refused it? I had a GP appointment and she wants me to see the GP who specialises in skin and for her to refer me if she thinks I meet the criteria but she let me book in my bloods for the dermatologist so I'm hopeful. Just don't want to be really disappointed if she says no or if they don't think my acnes severe enough?? Thanks for any replies

I'd say it's enough, probably not near as bad as the average accutane user but if it bothers you and nothing else works I'd say go it. The side effects are same whether your acne is mild or severe.
I've been using a low dose and my acne is extremely mild (like 5 pimples is pretty much my max) but at 20mg I've had practically no side effects so why not

Well if it bothers you is enough to try isotretinoin, especially if you've tried other types of treatments.

I had less acne than you and treated with isotretinoin many courses, unfortunately they came back, but you may be lucky enough for it to cure your acne forever.

I would focus on healthy eating & what you put into your system. Lots of Omegas 3s & just changing your diet. Salmon, & Catfish are big. I know it sucks as you see your friends eat whatever & have no issues. It's what I've done & seems to work for me. Drink lots of water & green tea. I'm sorry you're going through this. I've been there & am hopeful my new diet is working. Hope this helps. Stay positive!

Hi Ayeisha,

My acne is very similar to yours in this picture. I was wondering if your doctor ended up putting you on accutane or not? I went to the dermatologist this morning and based on my skin today she told me she would not put me on it. I explained my cystic acne comes cyclically around my period and she told me to come back and she'd see if it it was bad enough then.

In my experiences (after seeing many dermatologists throughout my years, I'm 28 now), I'd say that it wouldbe enoughforaccutane. Of course most people will probably say no because they don't agree with accutane and the health issues that might come from it.It alsoheavily depends on which doctor you see as well. But just from an unbiased stand point, I believe you would qualify for accutane.Personally I would stay away from it, but it's your choice to make. There are pretty solid routines and methods for clearing up the type of acne you have, and it also heavily depends on what acne products you are using also. There is a lot of factors that go into clearing up someones skin. Also the things you eat, like staying away from dairy products, eating more vegetables, etc... To me it looks like you haven't found the right dermatologist! The one I go to is a true specialist, an absolute beast and knows acne better than anyone. She would solve your skin problems without accutane. But yeah sometimes it's hard to find a person like that, I got lucky. I wouldn't recommend you go on accutane but I do feel like you qualify. Good luck!

Edit: OH wow this post is so old lol. Ayeisha, any updates on what you decided and how you are doing now?
