Been facing the same acne troubled area for the passed 2 years. Nothing has really worked for me. Been to several derms and they all give me a retinoid w/ spot treated and say the same damn thing "3 months for best results" well 3 months goes by and I'm still miserable. With barley any improvements. I'm 19, I hit the gym 4-5x a week, shower everyday if not twice a day, eat very healthy (fruits veggies etc) and drinking water nonstop. Idk what the cause is other then hormonal stress related. But honestly what the hell can you do about that. Please help! Any advice, tips, encouraging related stories will be greatly appreciated!
I have acne primarily on my lower cheeks, jaw etc. In this area it is largely due to a hormonal imbalance. The products I have used that have benefited my hormonal acne have been simple cleaners twice a day and ensure after workouts etc. your face is washed. Moisturiser after washing is also essential as if your skin is dried out it will tend to produce more oil - thus leading to more acne.
As far as actual medications that have worked - the antibiotic lymcyline slightly reduced my hormonal acne. I have been on countless creams and medications over my 12 years having acne and this is the only one that has worked. I recently started taking birth control which has greatly helped my acne (however i'm assuming this may not be possible for you).
Diet wise - avoid dairy products and if you do use supplements at the gym avoid whey protein - as this is known to cause acne!
This pic was taken right after I applie my spot treater and moisturizer.I have been avoiding dairy for a while now. I've been using African black soap and a cerave hydrating cleanser in the shower. I rarely drink any soda maybe like twice a week if that. Mostly water. I do use an electric shaver because I used to break out really bad with a disposable one even with sensitive skin shaving gel. I was put on differin .01% about 3 months ago and not really any results. Started to break out even more in unusual spots. So my derm switched me to adapalene .03 (at night) and clyndamicin (start of day) for a spot treater. I apply cerave after everyday. I'm also on doxycycline 100mg
Well that's the thing I always stick with the treatments they give me and they tell me you'll see results in a 3 months and then after 3 months with very little results they just switch me to something else and say the same thing again -_____- And do you recmommend anything if the redness is postacne marks?
When you say you avoid dairy, do you mean you just don't consume it often, or like .. ever? Some people are very sensitive to dairy and even the tiniest amount could break you out. Make sure to check ingredients in foods you wouldn't normally assume have dairy in it, because you'd be surprised!
Also I would stop soda completely, 100%, it is filled with sugar and no fiber obviously it's going to be very detrimental to your blood sugar levels which can hurt your skin. In general I'd try to lower sugar intake as much as humanly possible and eat very low GI foods. Especially focus on veggies (make them the biggest portion on your plate). And keep going with your derm! It might just take some time for the meds to work. Or they can start you on something else that might help once they see this isn't working. Are you against trying accutane? It helped me A LOT, even though my acne came back it was never as bad as it was before Accutane.
