Lingering inflammation

Hi,

I had a smallish pustule on my chin last week, I stupidly popped it too early and it swelled to a phenomenal size. It scabbed over, the inflammation went down gradually, and I left the scab to fall off by itself to reveal a head underneath. I went and popped it easily yet it swelled again, and two days later it is still the same size and is even more red - inflammation from popping a pimple too early has never lasted this long in the past for me, so I am really panicking that this will go on for months.

Does this mean the 'plug'/'core' is still inside? Whilst the scab was still on I could feel pus still inside as it hurt to touch with too much pressure. But now I can't feel anything inside? What could I do to bring it to the surface (if there is still something inside) or what could I do to coax it into healing more quickly? Is it simply a case of leave it alone?

Apologies for the cluelessness, you'd think I would know better now after having acne for 11 years?!
