I have a derm but they aren't covered by my insurance and I can't afford to right now. So the Internet will do for now lol
Im 29, have had acne for half my life. It's mostly hormonal and got much better on low doses of spiro and doxy. However, about 3 weeks ago (right after a long trip) I developed a rash-like breakout on my forehead. Which is unusual since I don't really get acne there.
its very bumpy, and I can see sections that have blackheads, and a couple spots I could make extractions. But mostly it's just bumps, whether they have gunk in them or not, they are not coming to a head. Overall it's extremely red and blotchy. It doesn't hurt but sometimes it mildly stings/burns after I wash my face or go in the sun (I always use high SPF)
I stopped the Differin I was using, as well as a mandelic acid toner. I only use Cetaphil or Aveeno Ultra Calming face wash, Neutrogena Ultra Gentle moisturizer, and Neutrogena Oil Free moisturizer SPF 35. This week I also bought Aveeno Baby Eczema Nighttime Balm, for the colloidal oatmeal. It helped slightly.
Any thoughts on what this is? Rosacea? rash? Fungal? Would a PCP be able to treat this? Any tips to reduce irritation and redness?
Try applying clotrimazole antifungal cream (sometimes sold as Canesten). It is totallly safe and cheap. STOP using moisturiser or organic oils on the affected areas as fungus loves moisture and organic oils in moisturiser feed malasezzia fungus, which causes fungal acne .
Dermatologists know NOTHING about fungal acne - they are "in denial" about it.
Fungal acne is caused by taking antbiotcs, birth control pills and a few other meds, possibly including accutane.
To the people on this thread - can you advise me whether you have taken antibiotics, do you have dandruff, do you have a white tongue. Answers to these questions will allow me to suggest more targeted antifungals for your condition.
The problem COULD be caused by demodex mites, rather than fungus. Demodex mites cause rosacea. Demodex motes can be controlled by apply topical cream for scabies (contains permethrin).
But start with the antifungal cream, as fungus is the more likely cause of your symptoms than mites.
