Hi, I have a daughter who is suffering with moderate acne, and scaring.Since she is Asian, she has scarring and hyperpigmentation which breaks my heart. Her skinconsists of whiteheads, pustules, nodules, and papules that are very stubborn and will take forever to go away. I really want her to try this regimen, but I don't know if she is old enough. So what should I do?

You should take her to see the dermatologist. They can give her antibiotics and a retinoid cream. Or even isotretinoin if the acne is as bad as you say it is. Isotretinoin is the strongest medication for acne and it really works, but I'm not sure if your daughter is too young; if she isn't then you should really give it a try.

Until you see the dermatologist try a 2.5% benzoyl peroxide cleanser and a 2.5% benzoyl peroxide overnight cream. Benzoyl peroxide is considered the most effective over the counter active ingredient in fighting acne.

Well her condition sounds serious enough for isotretinoin, so next time you see your dermatologist ask about it. What topicals is she currently using?

I think she might be too young for isotretinoin, so oral antibiotics and a product like epiduo might be a couple of good next options. Epiduo has both a retinoid and benzoyl peroxide as active ingredients, which are both well known to be good at fighting acne.

Okay, but do you think I should try this regimen?

This regimen is a simple cleanser, a 2.5%benzoyl peroxide cream, and a moisturizer. Its nothing special. You can go buy these products at your nearest drug store.

You absolutely can use a drugstore cleanser and moisturizer, but don't waste your money on those small tubes of benzoyl peroxide. Aside from that, the only available 2.5% benzoyl peroxide product sold in stores is a cream, which is difficult to apply and turns white on your skin when you sweat.

Ok thanks!!
