Too Scared to Live & Too Afraid to Die

I don't expect anyone to read this, hell my bet is 1000's of other people probably creates a topic talking about their own experience with acne, when they first sign up at acne.org

Just by reading around on this site i have found possible solutions
- Take Omega 3 and Zinc supplements
- Try the acne.org regimen
- Changing my diet
- (last resort) Accutane

I've got an appointment at a derm in a month and if he/she suggests accutane/anti-biotics i think i'm going to accept the offer.

When i was 16 out of nowhere i startedbreaking out severely. Huge cysts all over my face. I had acne under my eyebrows and inside my nostrils even. It washorrible. I dropped out of school and locked myself in my room every day for 4 months. Lost most of my friends except one. I bought something called ''Pantothen'' (Do not buy it since it's a scam). Anyway when i took it 2 months went by and i started clearing up. I now know that it wasn't because of the pantothen since i've been taking it almost every day for 4 months now and it has only gotten worse. I don't know what made it stop back then but it did and it was wonderful.

Fast forward 3 years. I've started getting acne again, not as bad as last time, but bad enough to avoid going out and enjoying life. It's such an awful time for this to happen again. I'm 21 and i'm supposed to start at University in August and i fear that i can't do it if this doesn't clear up, atleast enough for me to be able to go out and socialize again. Not only that, i met the love of my life quite literally but she had just gotten out of a 2 year relationship and decided to end things with me and her (this was right before the breakout happened) She said that in time she probably want to try dating again, but i feel that with my acne, any chance of that ever happening has been shattered because of it. I avoid her and it breaks my heart. I'm just afraid that if she sees my skin she'll think ''i don't want to be with a guy that looks like that). So i only see her when my acne is manageable and even then i'm a mess psychologicaly.

Every day i think to myself that if i woke up with clear skin i could get her back instantly with my renewed self-confidence and charm. I try to look good clothing wise and hair wise to limit the stress that acne causes but it's not enough.

I take loads of panthothenic acid, vitamin D, wash my face only with a cold wet towel two times a day, sleep on a clean towel every night, but it doesn't seem to help. Probably because i touch and pick my face CONSTANTLY.

I also hold lectures talking about anxiety and depression but that is on hold now too because of the acne.

What helps/has helped you guys? Do you think that if i completely stopped touching my face my acne would be less bad? I currently don't treat my face with anything other than cold water.

Thanks for reading.

Before you go on antibiotics know this...taking them will help, but overtime you build up a tolerance with them and eventually they won't work anymore. This was my experience in taking minocycline for 3 months. It kept me clear for 10 months and then my acne came back. I started taking the antibiotics again but my acne stayed.

I didn't want to start accutane because I was scared of the side effects. The Regimen was something I have been looking into for a while and thought this would be the last resort before looking into accutane. I had never regretted that decision. Although the Acne.org regimen is a tough regimen to start and get used to, it was the best thing ever for my skin. I have been clear and stayed clear for more than 3 and a half years now.

On top of that I also take birth control for my PCOS which is the main cause of my acne. It helps, but not as much as my regimen does. Vitamin D3 and Zinc have also been a huge help on my skin. The few spots that I get go away much quick when I am on those supplements.

Finding whatever works for you is your decision. Make sure you are able to fully ready to commit to whatever treatment and that it works with your lifestyle and your budget and the amount of effort you are willing to put in.

I completely understand how frustrating and depressing your situation is. I've been dealing with acne for so long and I have definitely avoided going out with friends because of break outs and have never seen myself as "attractive" enough for guys with acne all over my face. I tried every OTC product out there in vain. I went to the derm and tried rx topicals, antibiotics all in vain. Birth control pills did/does nothing for me. In between all that, I've tried more natural ways of approaching things. I have at this point tried so many treatments and am mentally and emotionally exhausted - so I'm waiting to start on Accutane. This might be a really long reply but I'll make it as concise as possible.

Medication Route (in order):you must give each product a solid, consistent 4 mo of use

  • Topicals: BP, BP + antibiotic, SA, Retin-A, Differin,

Hey there. You def want to live! You will get over this. Acne is a bitch especially cause its harder to treat in males but my advice is keep on trying.
Have you tried cod liver oil? ( I have a Norwegian brand actually). Some people on here take the fermented oil+ butter fat and have good results.
I suggest cutting out anything inflammatory like sugary junk, fried stuff and especially dairy.
Other than that good luck.

Hi Timo!
I can totally relate to what you're going through and I understand how frustrating acne can be. I've been there, I suffered from acne since I was a teenager until I was almost 23. I tried antibiotics, birth control pills, lotions, steroids and some other crazy stuff. Nothing really seem to work. Until one day I decided to look deeper and really understand why this annoying acne was't going away, I realized that my skin condition was only a reaction of a compromised digestive system. Sugars, refined carbs, sodas, alcohol are detrimental for the skin. I am now 29 years old and I have been acne free for over 6 years. If you want to, you can send me an email to jelial17@yahoo.com and tell me where you stand with your diet. I think I can guide you. And don't give up my friend, this is just temporary, it will soon pass.

i so agree.
If I eat dairy, soda or more than 1 coffee per day I have major problems.

What's the deal with cod liver oil? Why does everyone and their mother say fermented cod liver oil? What's wrong with the regular kind?

I take regular not fermented. I'm just going by which has the most success...I mean if you believe them...its supposed to be the combo of oil and the butter fat. It sounds gross that's why I don't take it.
