I'm 17 years old this year and I've never suffered from acne, until after last summer, when the weather got colder, it's also about the same time I started smoking after a tough breakup and I've read that cheek acne is related to your lungs, so could that be it? I can't give up smoking right now since I suffer from much stress and anxiety but I will stop in the future. My question is, is my acne caused by smoking? Only cig.

Hmm I've read before that the cheeks are related to the lungs in Chinese medicine. If you hadn't had acne before since you started smoking, perhaps it could have been that but also stress can cause acne too. I would seriously look into quiting smoking, it's seriously not good for your health which you probably already know and also you won't know if this caused your skin problem unless you do stop.

Damaging tools like this to cope with stress and axiety really are not a healthy option. Have you been to see a doctor about your stress or even a councilor?

Commenting on the Chinese medicine thing - I'd take that with a grain of salt. I am Chinese myself and all for my culture, but sometimes beliefs should be taken lightly. I do agree with the general consensus of face-mapping acne, but sometimes it's hard to say, y'know?

One could say it's "toxins" built up in the system that's showing through your skin. Not sure if that's just pseudo-science though. For me, I tend to get an increase of acne around the mouth when I smoke, I assume because the smoke hits that part of the face. But it's nothing unmanageable in comparison to my usual acne, and sometimes my skin will actually look better when I smoke. It's the weirdest thing, so while many health junkies would love to hear they're connected, I'm not entirely sure. I do know it takes away the "glow" of your skin though and affects the aging process for skin. I do know stress plays into my acne along with anxiety (cortisol levels and whatnot), so that could be exacerbating your acne. You're 17 so it's likely to be hormones along with the whole stress thing. Good luck though!

Could it just be my age and the hormones?

None in my family has ever had acne before, at all. I have only on my cheeks, no where else. Not a single pimple, anywhere. I'm just worried that it's not hormonal, standard teen age and that it won't go away. Everyone says it will go away though, that I'm 17 and I'm about to have a small period of hormonal changes resulting in acne before I finally finish my puberty, but is it really possible to be teen acne if it's ONLY on my cheeks? I don't disrespect any Adults still having acne but normally people say acne goes away at 18-19, but I'm so worried that it won't do that for me since my acne is different, as it's only on my cheeks.. It's ruining my self esteem and stressing me so much..
