I'm 25 years old. I've always struggled with some kind of acne, but this is out of control. I never even had acne this bad as a teenager. I don't even know where to begin to fix this. My skin also gets really oily as the day goes on. I was hoping to stay away from benzoyl peroxide because it makes it impossible to wear makeup to cover it up.. The acne just becomes so dried out, flaky and gross that it's even more noticeable. Last night I made a foaming wash with 1 part baby castile soap, 2 parts water, grapeseed oil, and lavender, lemon, and tea tree essential oils. I have been trying Juice Beauty's blemish clearing serum and peel as I would love to find more natural ways to fight it. Nothing is giving me even the slightest improvement. Help?
1. see your dermatologist
2. if for whatever reason you cannot see a dermatologist or your primary care doctor, then the only non-prescription medications are salicylic acid cleansing pads (or washes) and benzoyl peroxide 2.5% (not higher concentration) cream/lotion which you can leave on the skin from 1 hour to the entire day depending on your skin sensitivity.
3. I would not use other unproven remedies as they can cause allergies
4. you must understand that there are 3 strategic steps in fighting acne: 1. improve mood (reduce stress by sleeping long enough, by sharing your journey so that you get support from others such as right now on the Acne.org, exercise, etc.) 2. improve nutrition (eat foods from farms, not from factories; eat foods that your great-grandmother would recognize as foods; eat sugary foods not more than once weekly, get some fish oil, eat fermented foods etc.) and 3. skin care (as discussed above). People make mistake and rely only on skin care and then wonder why they still have acne! Thank you for sharing with us your journey and keep us posted! We will all learn a lot from it.
Best!

I've gone back to my benzoyl peroxide treatment as well as a 10% aha cream. The lowest percentage I could find. Now my skin is just really flaky and makeup makes it worse. Is the aha cream too much? I still have all of the hyper pigmentation as well as deep bumps that keep coming back.
