Hey i have been dealing with acne since i was about 14. It seems over time it just keeps getting worse and worse. I started taking accutane and have been on it for one month now. I am only scared because i have history of balding and i heard accutane can cause hair loss so i don't want my chances of hair loss to i crease due to the fact that it runs in the family. Anyways. I just want to upload picture of my acne right now and see if anyone out there at all has acne like mine and knows how to cure it without using accutane. This acne is really driving my insane i cant even enjoy time with friends and family because that is all i think about all day.
I do the Acne.org regimen. You can read about it here... http://www.acne.org/regimen
I'm not gonna lie, it is definitely a system you have to invest time and effort into but so far it has been the only one that has controlled my acne. Make sure you do your research on it before getting into it and just giving up a few days into it.
Other than that I did used a retin-a cream that did make my acne go away faster, but it never prevented new ones from popping up. 🙁
Hope Accutane helps!! Many people have fabulous results!! Your skin looks similar to my son's and he got clear using the Acne.Org Regimen. Something to try if Accutane doesn't work, or once you're clear, the Regimen can help you maintain your results.
Good luck!
I really do think that for your type of acne, Accutane is going to be your best bet. Hair loss with Accutane (according to my dermatologist) is very rare. I'm on it, my brother was on it, my uncle was on it, and two friends were on it. None of them experienced hair loss.
Have hope in Allah and dont worry I will make a prayer for you.
It is important that you keep taking the Accutane prescribed with a fatty meal consistently every day for 6+ months.
So be patient with gracious patience, you will have clear skin soon trust me.
Peace!
Balding and hair loss can also be a genetic thing so since your family is pre disposed tot his, you may end up getting it anyway, accutane or not. As other posters have said, accutane is really the most efficient treatment as far as far as pharmaceuticals are concerned. It does not guarantee clear skin for life but it will help the majority of people who take it.
If you don't want to continue, try retin a or another retinoid. You may also find it beneficial to look into diet and lifestyle changes. The acne.org regimen is also an option if your skin is not super sensitive
Appreciate all of the replies, i just feel like i have acne that is not cureable im afraid i take this harsh med. And it doesnt get clear. I have honestly never been able to find anyone by googling that has the same or even similar acne as me. Its so red and dark, bumpy, and i have huge pores its crazy.

My son cleared his severe cystic acne using the Acne.Org Regimen, plus a course of antibiotics and a retinoid prescribed by his derm. Your acne is similar to my son's, and you would definitely be a candidate for Accutane, although oftentimes derms start with a course of antibiotics first to see if acne responds to this treatment before going for the big guns. Antibiotics kill acne bacteria inside and out, and a retinoid can open up pores and purge blackheads/pore clogs, which can help topical acne-bacteria killers like 2.5% BP absorb better.
Recently started getting acne again after being mostly clear for 10 years (I'm 29 now). I went to my doctor and he prescribed me clindamycin. It was the worst experience I have ever had with acne. It made my acne 100X worse and made my face really red. So I stopped using its after 3 weeks. It was really starting to affect my life.
Anyways, the important thing is I started my own regimen that is super easy, inexpensive, and really works! My face is cleared up and back to its normal color after only a week. This is my routine (morning and night)
1. Wash with Cetaphil daily facial cleaner
2. Use a cotton ball to dab on Asepxia acne lotion (1.86% salicylic acid). It is $6 for a 4 oz bottle compared to $8 for a 1 oz bottle of Clean & Clear
3. Apply a thin layer of 10% benzoyl peroxide (I use Rite Aid brand)
4. Finish with Cetaphil lotion (your face will be dry from the BP)
Hope this helps!
Have you tried other treatments before? I agree with not wanting to use accutane I've been offered by doctors in the past and refused. You need to try a retinoid! Tazorac is amazing it cleared me for several years before I switched to RetinA which is another amazing topical usually used in conjunction with a morning topical and oral antibiotics for 12 weeks. If you have tried numerous prescription topicals and they've failed accutane may be the only choice. i think the ideal regimen for most moderate to severe acne cases is an oral antibiotic a retinoid at night and something like Aczone gel or onexton or benzaclin in the morning. Get another opinion from another doctor

yeah i have been on a retinoid and antibiotics, but didn't stay on antibiotics for long cause i read about how bad they are for you. And my derm told me not to use any other product on my face while on accutane proobably cause it will cause more dryness. Accutane has helped a bit tho. It's mainly now the dark red marks on my cheeks that i dont know how to clear
