Need some regimen advice

Previously I was able to clear up my cystic acne with Clindamycin Phosphate and BP Gel, 1%/5% and Retin-A with Doxycycline antibiotics. I was clear for about a year with this regimen, but my acne came back really bad after being lazy with the regimen and starting to heavily smoke weed. So I started the Acne.org regimen about a month ago after thinking it was the creams and antibiotics and not my laziness or the weed that broke me out. The Acne.org regimen cleared me up and getting very few pimples the last week, but for the most part my main issue is red marks and scarring. Now I'm having doubts if I should continue the regimen and just go back to my old regimen, which is suppose to help with scars and it previously worked me. I guess I just wanted to not have the initial "purge" and irritation so I went with the Acne.org regimen on a whim, but it is quite expensive for a College student and it's really not targeting my main issue, scarring and red marks. Any advice? Comments? Anything would be appreciated.

In terms of your scarring and red marks I really think the Retin-A will be your best bet. A flare up will most probably occur unfortunately :( but if you start slowly with adding the Retin-A in every 3rd day for the initial 2 or 3 weeks and work your way up to everyday eventually, it may not make it as bad.

No - one can really foretell how bad it will get though. I'm sure you can still use the regimen on the mornings to help combat the acne that does flare up too or even another antibiotic to lessen your chances of a big flare up.

Thank you for the advice. I think I might just go back on my old regimen if that would help with my scarring and it was definitely cheaper. Guess it was stupid to even go on the Acne.org regimen.

your welcome 🙂

No you weren't stupid to start the acne.org regimen. That regimen works alot for acne which is inflamed since the BP helps fight the bacteria, and you mentioned yourself that it did help clear you. Dan also sells a product called AHA - what they do is over time they actually help treat acne hyperpigmentation. So basically your glycolic acids and lactic acids etc.

But AHA's aren't as strong as retinoids like Retin-A. If it's cheaper for you to go back with your old regimen then go for that however I don't think you need the antibiotic since your acne isn't inflamed.

Actually I'm still taking Amoxicillin and I'm pretty terrified what's gonna happen when I run out.
