Hi just joined acne.org after battling acne for 4 years I decided to bite the bullet and take accutane I'm 2 months in breakouts have stopped yet I'm left with very dark brown /red pigmentation & my overall skin tone always looks irritated very red , looks like I've been Sun burnt. My skin has been irrated very easy since beginning accutane (orotane) and the pigment marks are just ugly !!! :( really depresses me. Anything gentle I can use on my skin to help with blemishes/hyperpigmentation and skin irritation. Also  I Am male sixteen haven't used ANYTHING on my skin since starting orotane

Don't use any more topicals and stop using Accutane buddy. Your skin is red because tretanoin thins out your skin permanently and you are left with no epidermis just a red smooth dermis. Use Manuka honey from Comvita and emu oil from Montana ranch.
I used topical tretanoin gel for 3 months only and it has permanently thinned my skin and this is two years later my skin is still thin and red. The only way to beat acne is to stop stressing over your skin and having anxiety or depression about it and eating healthy. Not stressing about your skin is the most important though. Our emotions cause a chemical imbalance in our bodies causing acne.
This sucks to hear this but we have been deceived by these pharmecutical drugs and our derms swear by it. The redness will go down but you will be left with thin skin and red marks for a long time or possibly forever but they will lighten but probably won't dissapear completely. The more tretanoin you use the worst it will be for you. Do me a favor and look up on google type in "topical steroid withdrawal" How do we differ from them we should call what we have topical tretanoin withdrawal or something. Cheer up buddy and let's accept it for what it is and let time do its thing. I was depressed too but It led me back to a daily life of prayer for my confidence and peace of mind.
Let me know if you have any questions or need some advice bud. I am here...

Thank you for your reply I have been on at least 4 different diets including paleo, vegan, high carb(fiber) low fat, high fat low carb(ketosis) they only provided me temporary relief ibalways relapse , also I have used Manuka honey Umf 20+ & all sorts of natural remedies , I've done sooo much to fix my body and yet acne has persisted for 4 years I would rather take accutane than have to constontly hide at home because my acne so severe 🙁

Ok,
But for me honestly I wish I could go back in time and have never used tretanoin and got rid of acne naturally. Because even after Accutane or tretanoin you will still get acne. It's really about stressing over skin and having a good diet. But more over stressing tho. After knowing this my acne would have subsided and wouldn't have thin skin from tretanoin.
Acne comes and goes, tretanoin damage on the skin is permanent. When you finish Accutane and notice that you still keep getting acne please don't let them talk you into going for Accutane twice or taking tretanoin cream or any medicine. Just eat healthy and tell yourself everyday that your not going to worry or stress over your skin. Good luck.

Hi, just thought I'd add in some different suggestions, you know, in case you don't get that time machine ;)

First of all, congrats on your acne clearing up, that's great - half the battle right?
I think it's a good call to not use any topical treatments while still on the accutane, they will probably irritate or even burn.
Have you been using any moisturiser? It won't necessarily help the redness immediately, but it will help the condition of your skin so that it can continue to heal in the best way it can. Anything simple like cetaphil or cerave, or if you look for anything that is formulated for people (even babies) with eczema then you can be pretty sure there's no irritants in it.

For the redness right away, have you considered trying a BB cream for a little bit of coverage? I know...maybe scary for a guy? But something like that would be subtle and not like full face makeup or anything.
You could also consider a colour correcting primer - one that looks green in the tube would counteract redness a bit, without actually being 'makeup'.

Btw if you haven't looked in the 'accutane logs' section of this website, there are plenty of men recording their progress and answering questions, (just in case you're looking for some more manly advice too).
Good luck :)

Thanks for the reply :) I use aloe Vera on my skin in the morning (grow it myself) & sometimes before bed I use a brand called nourish naturals moisturiser, I have noticed an improvement in my skin already
